Keyboard Nut Thread

You right I think it is an alu body, just the paint job that made me think it's plastic....

The M1W and M3W are also a fully assembled boards with full alu bodies with the wireless flexibility for the same price which is why I am leaning towards this
I have the M7W which I am really happy with. Can recommend this route even though I want to sell my Mod007 😅

Did u purchase direct from monsgeek?
Yup, ordered directly from them. They shipped quite quickly and I think I paid about R500 to get it through customs. I reckon it was about R3000 all in with the switches. When I bought, the M7W was 20% off.

I think I might have fallen in love

Has anyone ordered from this website before? Been searching for a GMK Black Retro OEM set & somehow Yuup.co.za has it “in stock”. This e-commerce store is apparently based in Durban. When I called the customer service number, I was told it ships directly from China to my door within 8-12 working days & import fees are included with a standard shipping cost of R99. Hello Peter rated Yuup at 2.8 stars, ranging from this store is a scam to it being the greatest place on God’s green earth.
I might take the plunge & hope for the best.

I was just about to say that I can guarantee you that set isn't real - GMK does not produce any ABS caps.

What official site are you looking at? Their only websites I know of are UNIQEY and Startseite - GMK electronic design GmbH

Figured as much

This was the website I found it on

However I think I’ll go with the Drop GMK Redsun. Amazon currently has a 65% kit for 95USD.

To my understanding most if not all GMK keycaps are made from ABS, which is rather strange choice considering PBT is regarded as a more durable material. However GMK uses a far denser ABS mould which even the scales. Notably, ABS is easier to machine, has greater colour saturation & clarity in text when done correctly = GMK

Yeah that's not actually their site. GMK is based in Germany and this website would get them in quite a bit of legal hot water if they kept it that way in Germany/anywhere in Europe

I had a stark suspicion that was the case, luckily I found a Drop set that is made by GMK on Amazon. I think this is my best bet

DROP + Redsuns GMK Red Samurai Keycap Set for 65% Keyboards - Compatible with Cherry MX Switches and Clones (65% 75-Key Kit) https://a.co/d/btr6qnW

You can try the Akko Jelly switches as well, they also have the small pins

Just found tht I have another hot swappable Keyboard laying around🤣🤣🤣 the k630 Dragonborn now I don't need to buy anything to experiment with

Has anyone built a Zyko switch? I’ve been contemplating building it. Would it be worth the effort or should I just get Neapolitan Ice Cream switches instead?

Get gateron yellows and lube them up. Leave all this new gen nonsense.

To my knowledge, Drop & ilumkb are the only two companies with in stock GMK’s . ilumkb having the largest variety. Granted with a substantial price hike. I’m considering coping a set of these futurecrime GMK’s

Gateron yellows are fairly good budget creamy linear’s, especially once lubed. Personally prefer my Gateron Ink V2 Black’s & Oil king’s. I recently opted to get Zeal Clickiez to spice things up a tad. Out of curiosity, I want to tinker with some of the newer releases from upcoming studios.

They are not just fairly good, they compete with Inks. I will open my wallet again when they bring something new.. Most of the new stuff is just boring iterations of stuff we've seen already. 🤢

I agree, many newly released switches are not revolutionary. With that being said, minor iterations & community Frankenstein switches largely plays the role that eventually leads us to the promised land, innovation. Although we do have a few notable releases, whilst not my cup of tea, the Wooting Lekker, Gateron KS & Geonworks Raptor magnetic hall effect switches are of note. Regarding clicky switches, the Zeal Clickiez are the first attempt by a manufacturer to recreate Alps. Whilst not a 1:1 recreation it serves as an admirable entry for this somewhat ignored segment. The Napoleon Ice Cream switch caught my eye as it was an adept attempt at recreating the Zyko Frankenstein switch. Was it a perfect reproduction? Not by a long shot but a switch worth looking at. Once upon a time the Holy Panda was a Frankenstein switch, created by one brave soul that decided to tinker.

Yo, did you come right with this? I want to try converting my Mistel MD770 with these, but the R600 delivery fee via DigiKey is a bit shocking 😂
