Game Controllers for PC 2024

Well this is Carb after all, leverage the CUD! xD
No affiliation regarding the sale, just found it in the Xbox section

Dammit, could have gotten both controllers for a good price XD

Indeed. Will be checking as I go here on Carb for the controllers as well.

Steam has native support for all xbox and ps controllers.
I use an xbox one controller though, no issues

@limadelta26

Not sure if it was mentioned before, but Dual Shock 4 (PS4) And Dual Sense (PS5) Controllers can work natively on Steam Games, but only on Wired mode, some work via Bluetooth, but more likely shits gona be a bit weird.
An Alternative is using DS4Windows, but as said this emulates the controller as a X360 Controller causing the incorrect button mappings to show up.

Yea I had the same issue before years back with my PS3 controllers. Back then I could only get some things to work (funny enough I could use it as a mouse on the PC) but it was stuck in wired mode the whole time regardless of being in connected to BT or not (and this was on several different laptops and a few desktops with BT adapters)

Yea I can connect my ps5 controller to my pc via BT, but on most steam games it just refuses to work unless I use DS4Windows or connect it via usb cable.

The only thing missing from Xbox controllers is gyro so that you can use gyro aim to try and keep up with KB/M players. If you're interested in using Gyro, your options are the Switch Pro or Dualsense afaik. Some 3rd party ones do exist, like the 8bitdo ones but people say first party is best.

Completely forgot to reply to this 🤣 my primary is KB/MSE and the games we will be playing will be the typical fighting games and then some split screen multiplayer games (A way out / It takes two and a few others as I find them)

Update from my end. Pulled the trigger on a purchase on 2 XB series controllers from xmods earlier. got them on a good price as well. I'm super chuffed with their selection as well not only in consoles but spares, shells, and electronics components.

Thank you @animehero for the recommend on them. Getting a carbon black and a electric volt with the windows adapter.

It may be the "boring" choice, but the Xbox controllers are actually pretty good.

Look for me the "boring choice" generally means they will work without issue.

Something I have always said is go OE with parts. They have been made like that for a reason. But in any case if they are "too boring" I can just swap out the shell, grips, buttons and such and then customise it.

I'm just going to have to relearn how to use an XB controller (its been over a decade) and I always was more familiar with PS style controllers from way back on my OG PS2 and later models.

For compatibility however, the OE Xbox controllers work. So I'm happy.

Hello fellow Carbies.

I want to find out from you peeps that use controllers on PC (for fighting games and side scrollers, etc) and in particular "It Takes Two" and "A Way Out" (been wanting to play those for a while with my wifie as it brings back some good old split screen gaming)

Simple set up, preferably wireless controllers that will give a good overall compatibility with games (she also will use it on her laptop for one or two racing games here and there - eg "Disney Speedstorm")

I honestly don't want to spend an arm and both legs for the controllers (speaking about the OG Xbox units) but from your experience which has been best for you. I have checked reviews on Logitech, Redragon, Turtlebeach and some other "Top Brand" units as well as a few "Generic" controllers. I'm not fussy with the layout, although myself and wifie have always preferred PS style controller layouts (back from when we both played on a PS2 & 3.... just realised how old I am getting)

My main thing is needing to get both controllers running on the same PC at the same time without issues (my hesitation with those generic controllers starts there)

Thanx all in advance.
ps4/ps5 controller from cash crusaders works really well for pc my xbox one controller has to use a cable

For the USB cable "issue" you need to have either a uilt in BT adapter (if you dekstop has built in WIFI for example) or a BT USB adapter. Alternatively, grab one of those USB adapters for the XBox controllers like this one: XBOX ONE Controller Adapter for Windows 10 V2

I should be getting my delivery within the next day or so, so I can update on my experience using the OE controllers and the adapter.

Spending R500 for a Bluetooth adapter is crazy

Well technically its not just a bluetooth adapter. Those units connect single or mulitple (up to 8) controllers at once on a pc. If you have built in BT then you dont need it. In my use case, I will be connecting 2 controllers at the same time on my rig.

You can go for a normal BT adapter like a TP link or even maybe one of those cheapies you can get from Matrix or Incredible

Xbox uses their own wireless protocol which you get with that adapter.

However, there really isn't much of a latency difference between Bluetooth vs Xbox Wireless so I'd recommend going with Bluetooth unless you need to connect a bunch of controllers at the same time.

Interestingly, wired latency isn't that much lower/better than wireless/bluetooth so pick your poison.

@Mrblem

Exactly my use case above using multiple controllers at once. Dunno if you remember Blur on PC. You can have 32P at once using 4 PC's with 8 controller per PC but you would need the XB wireless adapter for that.

On my end, I will use my controller as is, my wife will use her one as is (we both have built in BT on our rigs) and then we play some classic slit screen and fighting games we will run both at the same time with the adapter connected for the controllers.

Do I still need that dongle if I want to connect two Xbox One controllers to my PC which has built-in Bluetooth?

You need the Xbox wireless adapter for Windows if you want to run two or more wireless controllers at the same time. With Bluetooth you can only run one. (There are ways around this but they are janky).

I used xbox 360 controllers with a usb wireless receiver and never had issues with using two controllers sometimes 4,playing fifa with the guys. They cheap to get to

@Kamikaze I'll check this out for you with mine and see how it works as well. Should be able to test this out tonight or tomorrow
Thanks @limadelta26. I'll keep an eye on the thread :)

I also have 2 wireless Xbox 360 controllers along with the USB receiver at the moment. And yes they work just fine. I'll be on the lookout a month from now for a good 2nd hand deal on Xbox One controller upgrades whenever it pops up.
