Ok So I have been done in by the same guy as a few others on here - only put the pieces together afterwards - clever little sneaky bastard so far I can track he goes by the name

DPSteyn for my scam
then he is also involved in this scam
Seller received payment then stopped replying | Bad Deals
and this one
Scammed by @danielschutte | Bad Deals
and this one
Seller been paid but no response | Bad Deals

Scammed @danielschutte | Bad Deals

and anything to do with a SSD and health test.mp4

Deal Thread URL: I put a wanted ad out for sim racing parts ---he replied to me https://carbonite.co.za/index.php?conversations/gsim.723217/
Seller:
(@DPSteyn)
Buyer: (@3bar )
Description of Bad Deal:

he replied to my wanted ad

offered pretty much what I was looking for
price agreed on
I made payment
he agreed to ship
he keeps promising, he is a man of his word blah blah no tracking number, he claims he has shipped it via Ladysmith postnet I called them up and they haven't shipped anything to my postnet, my postnet shows nothing on the system for me (they can look countrywide

I started going through this bad deals thread and found the details about an SSD and health test.mp4 file - he also offered this to me and then the pieces landed up together - same file name as elsewhere on this site

I been scammed

diansteyn98@gmail.com is his supposed email
number 076 114 4798
his google drive account is
Health Test.mp4 - a few have been caught on this)
he sent me an id card and i have attached his whatsapp and identity card - all no doubt fake

he seems to prey on carbonite members - surely there is enough metadata to ban him completely

He does seems to like the initial D and S - probably close to his real name or just Dumb Shit

I do have a brother very high up in the security services and will no doubt see what I can elicit out of him for this

any other forum members with more details on this guy - a location would be king or anything else

or else we have to set up a sting - I am out of pocket and I am sure a few others are
if we all dumped 10% more into this we could nail this sorry son of a bitch ass to a cop shop where he can get charged and dealt with

great and thanks
but surely since he has been responsible for a few scams here - enough metadata exists to bust his ass ?

If it's the same guy, you can send details to @poplap (he made a case and got a scammer involved in a court case etc) and open a case of fraud with the information you have and let the police do their thing. @poplap have more info on which detective to get involved etc if it's the same guy.

It looks photoshopped. Photo bucket tool cut out & rough edges around the pic. Font also looks dodge

There was a thread around here detailing how to detect it

This thread - Detect Photoshop Scam
I've found that thread very very useful and now feel like a righ Sherlock hommie

Looking at the ELA (JPG noise) profile there is a definite difference between the "Republic Of South Africa" text at the top and the personal details text on the card...those should have matching ELA brightness.
The face photo is also clearly a different brightness than the rest of the card and the photo's edge is definitely highlighted...which all point to some serious shenanigans with this ID card.

Putting a grid over the image and aligning it with the perspective of the card (photo will have perspective distortion unless it was scanned)
...shows that the personal details text is clearly misaligned with the perspective of the rest of the card.

Sorry you got scammed, it sucks, I've been there...
Just trying to show that there are ways to check this stuff and avoid becoming victim to these groenies.

The Bad Deals thread is between the two parties involved and for those with relevant information only (Scammer details, assistance with warranty check, etc). No posts of any other kind will be tolerated in a Bad Deals thread.

….just saying

AND IT SAYS HE WORK AT MACDONALDS TRANSPORT AND WAREHOUSING WHICH IS IRONICALLY ADVERTISED ON CARBONITE WEBSITE. .

@3bar, tell me something, what would have helped you avoid making this mistake when you joined this site?

yeah it was my own fault for getting scammed - all comments are valid but since this same guy ripped another member off yesterday on this site - something needs to be done

as to "ron" question

the details required to be put in the posts are actually creating a scam environment

think of the intel we as "innocent consumers" are giving away with the rules and format of the post

1) we are forced to give away budget - so the scammer knows how much he can target to lift off of ourselves - the amount we willing to spend should be confidential
2) we indicate if we will accept a shipped item - i can bet that 99% of all scams emanate from this - the scammer knows he has a fish on the line straight away
3) the owner of this website needs to use the metadata they get on signup to do a more detailed verification, the site owner will get isp details / originating IP etc - sure there are easy ways around that but a pattern will emerge

so please mods work with the users to create a better site

Where is this advertised?

that will be google doing adwords based on your previous google search history
its not carbonite doing that - a lot of the ads seen by users are inidividual and specific to their browser history search

1) You can say no the the guy if he seems fishy/weird. Again our safe dealing guide even specifies that if it's to good to be true it usually is. So if some oak tells you he has an item for R800 when you said you can spend R1000, it's your choice if you want to continue or not.
2) Again you DO NOT have to ship an item if you don't want to, that's your choice.
3) We do reject people if they have a shared IP etc, but they do use ways to work around this.
