Bikers!?

everytime with anything in life that i let go and showed off with it blew up in my face haha so im just over it, now i just ride for the love of riding lol

we should all do a carbie bike run to somewhere hehe if the demons wanna go off and do their thing then let them, as long as we all meet at the same destination

A good friend who's been a 1% biker for many years has always had the best saying after seeing many mishaps at dayjols & rallys: "Van Afshow Kom Kakshow!"

English version: "You show off, you fall off!"

But the Afrikaans version just sounds so much better! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Bike is going in end of this week for service and repairs, will be out a week, maybe 2 if parts aren't available.
Wallet is not happy but gotta be done.

When you guys planning a ride?

Have 2013 Duc Diavel.
It's Desmo time as well as belt time.
That would be OK but also have to have the rear shock rebuilt, so might take a bit longer if getting parts for it is a problem.
Also, workshop is Pretoria side so getting there in the week, is a lil impossible.
So only can do that over weekends.
So at least a week before I can collect.

Anyone here perhaps have a GS911 ?

Windshield on my k1600 lost calibration, and my code reader can't recalibrate it.

Willing to pay for someone to help me (especially since I know they can be used om a limited amount of bikes), but not willing to pay R7000 for a GS911 yet.

Already reached out to a few dealers as well, but waiting to hear back so thought I may as well ask here as well.

Hi everyone, hope everyone is having a better morning than I am😂.
Was involved in an accident now. Vehicle didn't see me, and paused crossing the road. Took cars rear quarter out, bumper is chilling off the back of the car.
Very thankful for crash bars saving my leg.

Any suggestions on where I can take a bike to be repaired/quoted on in CPT? Shop needs to be suzuki capable...

Damage is as follows:
Crash bars
Wing mirrors
Hand gaurds
Fairings right hand side, scratched and bent out of form.
Brake pedal
Rear indicators.
Spotlights in sy moer in.
Boots are seriously scuffed up as well.

Shifter doesn't want to shift properly either... Developed a very strange noise now...
Will need to check if the fork is still straight as well.

All suggestions are welcome!
I am fine, just shaken up. Proper gear works, jacket shows no wear or damage although the elbow is now sore.

Will post photos of damages later...

It's great to see you wearing the appropriate gear. It's concerning how many GS riders I see commuting in shorts and sneakers. I understand it gets hot, but safety should always come first. Accidents can happen unexpectedly.

Hope you get her sorted.

While I'm not very up-to-date with biking resources, you might want to consider reaching out to Wicked Cycles in Paarden Eiland. They may be able to provide you with a quote for insurance purposes.

Eish, that's a kak one, sorry to hear.

Glad that you are OK. (y)

Good luck with repairs to the bike!

Have seen a lot of those lately and always cringe at what that would feel like...
Was not expecting to be involved in an accident this morning, was a great morning for the ride, bike felt great.
Yes, boots are hot, but having a de-gloved foot is not so hot.

Have given a few places a call so far, most seem to recommend going straight to Suzuki South.
Have another 2 shops to try later this afternoon that were recommended by some friends that race bikes as well.

Hoping I'm going to be back on the bike soon, but not holding much hope, as the bike is rather "old" so sourcing of parts could be problematic.

EDIT, more info...
Also finding more damages now, rear wheel/swingarm is skew to the rest of the bike, leaning at an inclination of about 10° to the left side. As a result chain is not running properly on sprocket and seems to want to jump off.
Rebound on the fork seems to stick at some point and not want to travel all the way down.

Would this not be a write off then with all the other damage as well?

Glad you're okay tho. Worst news is when you hear bikers getting BADLY injured.

Yes, would probably work out for the best as well being a write off.
Just weird such a low speed accident can cause so much damage.

Agreed, I value that more than anything to be honest. Alive and no broken anything, bar some confidence, is a good day.

Only saw the updates the thread after your PM. I'm really glad you are safe and in good health dude. Accidents, especially bike ones, suck big time.

As for the 'repair quote'. If you are quoting to get a big bill to have the insurance write her off, go to the agents. Straight to Suzuki. They don't repair, they replace. So they end up listing every little thing that is nicked and bent. This usually pushes up the repair quote quite considerably. Go this route if you would rather the insurance replace your bike.

If you want to get a quote to actually have it repaired, I would take it to you nearest sensible workshop. You can always contact reputable trackside mechanics, they usually have means and ways to sort out the chassis and frames. Talk to Juls Neethling @ Superbike Solutions for this type of work. He will give you the honest run down of what needs to be fixed, what needs to be replaced and what you can get away with. But only go this route if you want to keep the bike.

Again, I and many others, are happy you are safe. Thank you for your testament on the appropriate riding gear. I don't know where I would be today if I did not wear my gear during my off motorcycle excursions.

Thanks, need some time to consider the options and which way is the best going forwards.
Options and opinions on both?

Will phone and have a chat with Juls tomorrow as well, see what he says and what we really need to look at.
Gather some more information.
Wicked are due to send a quote tomorrow as well, but they are full for the next few weeks.

Any day! Preaching to the converted here😂. Jacket is fine, boots took most of the damage overall.

Anyone have any ideas what Honda support in SA is like? A little concerned about sitting in a similar predicament as I am now, where spares aren't easily attainable or too costly to make the repair economical...
Have read the threads over on Wilddog and not seeing any huge issues with Honda.

Edit, above is assuming bike is a write-off, will hear that tomorrow...
Bike is at Julian at the moment, everyone I have spoken to doesn't sound hopeful that it's salvageable.

EVERYTHING is import these days regardless of brand. Sadly.

Not what I wanted to hear at all unfortunately...
Narrowed a replacement down to Honda or BMW, both being very good bikes overall, although design philosophy is very different for the adv segment. (Not starting that debate here:censored:)

Maybe give Honda Sandton a call and see what sort of things they keep stock of for the bike you're looking for. I'm sure there are CT dealerships too, but worth checking with the JHB guys as well.

If you ever find yourself in PTA East make a turn by me, my launch x431 supports special functions for your bike, never done a windshield calibration before but also cant check if the function is there without plugging it in so yeah pop in whenever you come this way
