We have two ways of displaying stock, and we want to know how you'd prefer it :)

1. Show everything by default (this is how it has been since day 1, in other words leave things the way they are)
Pros: You get to see the entire catalog at a glance
Cons: You need to scroll through out of stock items (graphics cards are a prime example, right now under NVIDIA GeForce there are 201 items displayed which aren't necessarily end of life but there's no stock)

2. Hide out of stock items by default
Pros: No need to scroll through out of stock items
Cons: It might look like we don't offer a lot of products (as above, it will look as if we only offer 60 NVIDIA GPUs out of the nearly 300, and you will have to change the filters to see the rest)

With option 2, you'll still be able to see (and search for) out of stock items if you want, you'll just need to go to Filters -> tick either box for Stock Status

So, which would you prefer?

How it is now:

Vs the proposed change:

Either way, you CAN see only in/out of stock or all items if you want. It will just change the default view the customer sees.

Hey Bud,

My opinion is to rather hide it, but give the option on the Filter.

Also, make it searchable, if it make sense?
i'll browse your site, maybe cant see the item, but then when i search it, it shows "out of stock", but the item is listed.

I hate going lets say on Takealot, seeing something i like, then buy it only to find that i can get it in only 2 weeks.

Shot bud.

Option 2 works.

Option 1 is painful. Going though 10 pages to find nothing in stock is a real pain.

But can’t you just allow a filter by stock level then we see the out of stock items at the latter pages

Just to clear that bit up, out of stock items are very clearly market - the have a big out of stock sign over the picture, and you can't add to cart/order.

Option 2.

Option 1 is beneficial when you see things like the Noctua 3070 - an example of a 'good to know' you stock it for future reference. Or to have a price on old or out of stock items like the only thing shittech is good for, otherwise it's a schlep when not looking for anything specific.

it would be nice to be able to have another store that acts as a price reference for discontinued products to replace using shittech as exactly that when no other store shows their prices xD

Hi there just adding my 2cents:

I think show all of them but by default sort by 'in stock' items. Basically move the out of stock items down so you can still see them but you see the items you can actually buy first.

I prefer just seeing in stock items in a store. That way I dont get a little bit excited then disappointed when I see its out of stock :(

Both not possible?

Show out of stock after in-stock items. Otherwise might have sections with no items in extreme cases.

How about a reverse of option 2. All items shown by default with a filter to hide out of stock. Pretty much like wootware.

That's EXACTLY how it is right now, and has been since day 1.
Well. That's not embarrassing at all.

Most places have everything shown and then you filter away out of stock. So my vote is to leave it as is. Definitely agree with the peeps that it helps create awareness of items that you may get stock of in the future.

The votes are going very strongly in the opposite direction.

I voted option 2, but maybe a better option would be to show the out of stock items after the in stock stuff - include the stock status in the default sort order.
That way you still get to show your full catalogue, but the user doesn't have to scroll through out of stock stuff or mess with filters.

This actually, in stock filter to top, out of stock to bottom.

Not an option for right now - just one of the two.

I've added pictures to the OP to show exactly what the difference will be. You can and still will be able to choose between the way it is now and the proposed change, the difference will just be what you see by default.

I'm sure you handle your stock database better than other retailers but fuck I hate going to a website with 500 irrelevant products loaded over the last seven years that are mostly unavailable in any event. I like to see whats in stock by default with an option to trawl everything if I want. Especially when viewing on a mobile device. That said at least you clearly mark out of stock items because having to click an item to find out if its in stock ranks right up there too!

Just as good actually, can't be that lazy not to click one filter xD

Change vote.

Show alles. With the option on the side to only view things in stock :)

Items are purged +/- 2x per year. They remain on the site for anything from a few months to a year after being discontinued for reference purposes, after which they're bye-bye (still there, just hidden from the public/disabled). Eg, those old Biostar B250 mining boards were discontinued and are scheduled to be purged.

Where would I find the filter options for the mobile version?
