Happy Christmas,

The wife went extra on our lunch

This is a photomicrograph that I took a few years ago. These are the tables of 2 different diamonds under longwave UV.

The pattern (growth marks) that seems to be mirrored on both diamonds is because these two stones were cut from the same rough. It's a very rare thing to see.

It is one of the coolest photomicrographs I have taken.

It reminds me a bit of the microscope practicals in second year crystallography. Awesome to see!

Well then you know exactly what you are looking at. Did you by any chance get into spectroscopy within crystallography?
I was waaaay too dumb to complete those courses... They made me realise I'm much better in understanding what's going on on top of the ground than beneath it, so I pursued a Geography degree, rather (otherwise known as the Micky Mouse BSc...)

My wife incubated 7 duck eggs over December. 1 made it.

First pic is when she was hatching the ducking from the egg, second one was 24 hours later - duckling still alive & well & in the incubator to dry off & keep warm.
Little duck is now with a surrogate Mommy duck since Wednesday & is doing well.
