Xbox - Witcher 3 :(

I recently bought an Xbox and it came with Witcher 3.

Why do I need to do a 18gb update before I can even play the. FFS.

I mean wtf, I just want to play a game. Not wait 2 weeks for the update to finish before I can start playing.

I'm new to gaming, so please educate me if I'm ranting for nothing.

Day 1 patches are common, Day 1095 patches more so.

think it was Grand Turismo or some game i wanted to play on PS4 also, had and update, after that update another huge one, after that one, another one, then i could play lol.
Its Very normal.

No, you just need proper speeds rather than 1Mb.
I download the patches in well under and a hr on a 40Mb VDSL.

A 15gb patch is nothing.
I downloaded 100+gb for GOW4 on PC, reloaded my PC then was forced to redownload the entire game again because windows apps dont have the ability to be backed up and restored like every other platform on pc...

I've looked at most of them, I stay in a shitty zone, nobody seems to want to give us proper coverage.

If you think that's bad...don't get Gears of War 4...there is a 32gb patch when you first put the game in...took me about a a week or two to download on a 2mb line...

You do understand that a game update that large means it's a high level update which has to be downloaded in order for the game to even run.

Pretty much yea.
There are some threads online about being able to 'back up' the data, but the ones I tried didn't work.
Maybe you have more luck.

Yes, developers are pretty open about it too, it's not a secret. The lag time between having to ship a game build to the disc printers and the game being release is usually many weeks. Developers use that time to polish, or even finish, the game before release. Then the day 1 patch completes the unfinished build that the discs come with.

The Witcher 3 in particular had a tricky development process due to its size and scope. They worked on the game until the very last second before release. Can read about it in the book "Blood, Sweat and Pixels." Pretty interesting.

Taking about updates not install. From my understanding when a game is updating you cant play it on xbxo
