Xbox Game Pass on PC will cost $5/£4 a month, but if you sign up now your first month will cost just $1/£1.
The service will give you access to 100+ games on demand for your monthly fee, and a Microsoft Store page for a beta version of the Game Pass went live earlier today, confirming the pricing. It also listed some of the games that will be on the service—you can see them below. Note that Halo: The Masterchief Collection, Gears 5 and Ori and the Will of the Wisps are "coming soon".

Game Pass subscribers will also get a 20% discount when buying games included in the pass, and 10% off DLC.

You can currently sign up and pay through the page, which suggests the beta will go live very soon. It's not clear whether the $1/£1 introductory offer is linked to the beta or will remain when the service launches for real.
No doubt we'll find out more during Microsoft's E3 event later today. As Jody wrote yesterday, you'll be able to "discover and download new games with Xbox Game Pass" via the new Xbox app.
The price tag means it costs the same as Origin Access, EA's subscription service. Origin Access has more games, but Microsoft says that new games will come to the Game Pass every month.

Super excited about this.

same....then realised I have to do a massive windows update to get the new xbox app
You know what's worse, doing the update only to be told by the updater that I ain't ready for the update [emoji53] and then cancelling the whole thing.
I used the updater that you download, because the crappy built in updates hasn't found it yet.
Guess it's time to reinstall windows [emoji1745]

Yea my one is stuffed up as well. Keeps failing.
Gonna try the update assistant that opens with the xbox app. I see thats what you used...fuck.

When I used the built in windows update, my pc restarted to load the update and then mid way through screen just went black...then reversed the update.

Windows should just make the Xbox app a downloadable program. So we can avoid these scenarios. I'm so keen to either disable and uninstall windows update (which that was a real possibility) or move across to Linux.

Unfortunately I'm so held down by the programs in windows ecosystem that moving across to Linux isn't so simple.

You can’t.

The best thing you can do is start the download then use grabit to find the link. You can use that link to download an APPX file which you can install through powershell on any Windows 10 PC.

Microsoft store games have encryption on the files which make them useless when copying them. With the above mentioned method the encryption takes place when installing the APPX file.

There’s a few tutorials on the net.

Note that the file won’t install if there’s spaces in the filename and directory path.

If both PCs are on the same local network you can use Delivery Optimization. Recently shared Gears of War 4 with my brother and it worked surprisingly well.

If they aren't, then the method mentioned above by @LaidtoRest_ZA is your best option. I had to download the files originally using that method because the Microsoft Store would just keep failing during the download and force me to restart the process.

Whoa both systems are on the same network, could you please explain how you shared Gears 4 with your brother?
I want to do this!

Have a look at this guide (it's what we used):

The process was pretty simple to set up. If you have any issues you're welcome to PM me and I'll try to assist.
