So I just made my first build, I'm all excited and giddy. I press the on button and it lights up like a carnival so I'm ecstatic. Little did I know that in the next few seconds I'd be severely disappointed. Long story short, no post.

Tried my hol af taking things apart and reassembling just to get the same result. Had me worried that my CPU was dead or something. Turns out the MSI X470 motherboard just isn't compatible with Ryzen 3rd gen out of the box. Apparently there's no way to update it without using a lower gen to boot it first either.

So now I really need some kind soul in more southern Cape Town to let me update it with his lower gen ryzen CPU ( can be done at your place, I'll bring my whole ass system if need be)

If anyone knows a different solution, let me know. I don't know if PC shops offer this service but if they do please point me out to one, thanks

TLDR: Desperately need someone in Cape Town to help update my x470 mobo with a lower gen ryzen for my ryzen 3600 to be compatible

BUILD:
RYZEN 5 3600 CPU
MSI X470 GAMING PLUS MAX MOBO
2X8GB RIPJAW 3200MHZ DDR4 RAM
MSI GAMING RX570 4GB GPU
SUPERFLOWER LEAD 3 ARGB GOLD PLUS MODULAR PSU
SAMSUNG 970 EVO M.2 NVME 500GB SSD
SEAFATE 3TB 7200RPM HDD
TPLINK WN881ND 300MPS WIFI CARD
CORSAIR CARBIDE ALPHA CASE
3X CORSAIR FANS

What part of the South you in? I have a Ryzen pro 1500 that works but doesn't seem to like two DIMMS after fixing a few pins. Other than that it seemed to work fine so don't think it would give issues in doing a BIOS flash. Think its in my cupboard somewhere but don't mind it being used or are you asking someone to help do the full flash for you? :)

Ill speak to my friend but we are in Table View, I know he has a 2nd gen ryzen (well I think he does)
Hey, I'm more in the southern suburbs so that's a bit of a drive for me but if push comes to shove, I'll definitely take you up on that! I'll PM in you in a bit

Did you buy the Mobo new? If so my friend had the same issue and told the supplier and they took it back and updated for him...

Hmm... I don't think the issue here is CPU compatibility. The X470 Gaming Plus MAX is supposed to support Ryzen 3000 out of the box: MSI's MAX Motherboard Lineup

If you're certain you have the MAX variant of that board, then there is a possibility that you have a different problem.

Yeah, I'm certain I do. Damn, this might be a lot worse than I anticipated. Any tips on how to troubleshoot? Everything turns on, lights, fans and the whole shebang but no post. I've been using HDMI cause I don't got any 15 pin VGAs if that means anything

Thanks for the offer bud! Unfortunately after some more info I see that compatibility isn't the issue. Appreciate the gesture tho

No probs! I've been there with CPU incompatibility so try to help. Have you checked that the RAM is in the correct slots? A common issue with first starts. Also, doesn't the mobo have diagnostic lights? I have the X370 version and pretty sure it has the lights.

A couple of obvious things to check (all of which have caught me off-guard in the past):
- Is your monitor plugged into the GPU or the mobo? The R5 3600 has no onboard graphics so it won't work in the mobo, you must plug it into the GPU.
- Is the GPU PCIe power plugged in?
- Are you sure the monitor and HDMI cable are definitely working? Try them in another PC to make sure.

Then. Does the board have debug LEDs at all? That will help guide you. Then try unplugging everything non-critical - i.e. just keep mobo, RAM, CPU, CPU cooler, PSU, and GPU plugged in. Also try taking out one RAM module and using different RAM slots, then do the same with the other module. If this doesn't do it, you'll probably have to swop out each part for another one that is known to be working one-by-one to see if they solve the issue.

I had it running dual channel in A1 and B1. Gonna be honest, didn't know what diagnostics lights were, researched it a bit and I never really took note of it when testing. Found this while researching tho and it looks a lot like my problem ... So lmao, it looks like it comes down to a bios update anyways

Welp. That is annoying. Perhaps @TheJudge's services will come in handy after all

I initially used the gpu HDMI but no good then I used the motherboard HDMI and same. Turns out the motherboard HDMI wouldn't have worked either way then. I'm actually using my TV but I'm certain the HDMI and TV cause I've used it on my ps4. I'll try see what's up with the debug lights cause I just learnt that's a thing.

I'm thinking I have the same problem as in this link ... but imma try checking the debug lights first before I resort to BIOS update again

Have you tried doing a bios flashback?

Load the latest bios on a stick and follow the instructions in the video below or google it.

Do you remember, did the CPU fan cycle on and off like the PC was restarting every so often?

Oh nah, it was constant but I'll give it one more test looking at the debug lights and so on before trying Rectron

If I remember right that's what my X370 Gaming did when I tried my 3100 in it and the BIOS was too old.
