Fresh install or updated? Iv'e heard and read about a few complaint about the Superfetch service but mostly on older gens with HDD and older laptops

Fresh install. I'm starting to suspect that my HDD might be dying. I'll test when I get home.

Another Windows update thread

I've never understood why people have issues. I have a laptop, a NUC at work, a "downloader" NUC and a gaming PC at home. On all four I just leave them to do their update thing when they need to - never proactively try and get an update early.

At worst an update interrupts my day for 5 minutes and then it's business as usual. No performance issues, no disappearing files, no errors.
I explain it to clients like this - you can have 2 TOTALLY identical machines, with identical issues (lets say both won't print) , both having different causes and fix's. IE A car can get a flat tire from a piece of glass or from a nail. Still a flat tire that needs replacing, and can be replaced with different types of tires.

Too many problems, updated and entire windows got corrupted to a point task manager stopped working and few blue screens later I was locked out my account, windows didn't want to accept my password or pin

Took some time to reinstall windows, drivers, games so can someone tell me where to create a restore point on win10?

Clone, clone, clone & verify your clone before updating. Saves plenty of headaches. :)

I run 1 x 3rd Gen Acer laptop, 1 x 4th Gen MSI laptop and 1 x 4th Gen desktop. All are running smoothly after using Windows Update to get to v1903. I noticed a bit of a performance improvement as well. However I have to do a clean install on the desktop, since one of the previous Windows Updates messed up the system sounds, which I though updating to v1903 might rectify, but that didn't happen.

I still see business running stuff on Win7
Um, do you know how popular Windows XP still is for a lot of people? The a large percentage of China still uses it.

Both my laptop and desktop are on the latest May 1903 build and they are fine.

If anyone here is unable to update to the latest build, I’d suggest a reinstall. I have had previous builds fail to update to the latest version and keep rolling back.

I'm not sure if anyone else is having this issue, but since doing the update, my Downloads folder (which is on the secondary mechanical drive, not the boot SSD) is taking far longer to load. I actually get a loading bar now in the file browser, before everything gets displayed. Seems as though it's no longer caching the folder or something.

Maybe windows is still building up cache?
