Good day all.

I'm hoping to get some insight/assistance with my dilemna.

I have an i3 5th gen notebook, a HP. It has 4GB memory and I installed a 120GB SSD.
I needed Windows 10 32bit OS installed so I created the install and proceeded to install the OS on the notebook. A clean install as the system had Windows 8/8.1 installed.

Initially I struggled as I kept getting the no OS drive error. After some research I found that I needed to enable "legacy" in the BIOS. I then could install the OS and when done the notebook worked as should. Well it booted into the OS with no problems. So I proceeded to update the system. Now, like 2 minutes into the update I got a bluescreen and then I would not be able to login into the system again because on every boot when the OS is loading it would give the blue screen every time.

So my question is, can one not run a 32 bit OS on the notebook? In the BIOS it shows factory install being WIndows 8 (if this info makes any difference).

Before one of you ask though, the system is needed to run an old program. We have tried the "run in compatibility" mode but has issues pop up. We've tried a virtual system but also pick up some issues. So we are trying to get a system with a 32bit OS installed to be able to have the needed program run as it should.

Your knowledgable assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Hmm

Why not tell us what the program is and what you would like to do with it so we can help with that rather than rebuilding the house to change the carpets?

Have you tried booting into safe mode ?

I use the term we loosely as I was not involved with that process. The client explained what his team did and requested a 32 bit OS.

This is a learning curve for me at this point too though.

Getting to know this issue and the possible fix will help build my knowledge too.

I have tried. Might be using the incorrect button.

If I do get in though then I'll be able to uninstall the updates and then check which one/s could be the issue but then does it mean updates should not be done.

Also try disable as many on board items, get into windows and install the drivers and then enable them one by one to see which might cause the blue screen

Right...

Well if you need a OS just for the one bit of software just install Windows 7 32-bit, it's much quicker and more reliable than 8 or 10.

Is this a secret program, seeing as you're not just giving the name?

No it's not hey though I do have to say this is the first time I've encountered such snarky remarks on Carbonite when I've asked for help previously.

If more information is needed then let me know but no need to leave comments which don't add value bud. We all are trying to build on what we know.

None the less, I've contacted the client and he's said it's a program which was created locally. It's a type of excel program for calculations but unfortunately the creator can't be contacted (something like that) and they don't have someone to edit the coding to make it work on 64 bit platform.

Thank you for the advice thus far though...

Sounds almost like a add on for excel to me that only works on office 32biy and not so much 32bit windows as I have had some issues. But sometimes can be their odbc drivers that are also an issue...

But hey if it's a windows thing might be that a compatible driver was installed by windows that doesn't play nice this has happened too me to especially on my atom itx that I had 32bit windows on. Was 7 then upgraded to 8 then from there to 10 with free update... But some drivers that are optional don't always mean to install it nless you where having issues with them to start...

So maybe try rolling back...
If you not getting into recovery after 3 failed boots I would cause the system to fail boot to let windows get you into the auto recovery then that should fail and you should be able to go manually and choose what you want to do...
How I make it fail is let pc try boot then press power button till it goes off while trying to boot mostly don't need to do this more than 3times.

"no OS drive error" & " like 2 minutes into the update I got a bluescreen" - Check the SSD with SSDLIFE.

This is why I always tell clients to steer clear of custom projects, "one-of-a-kind" website's, website themes etc. 99% of the time the programmer provides zero documentation, and if they do, then 99% the client will not be able to find it...

x64 is standard, so either program is OLD, like Vista old or coder was lazy.

Win10 prefers a UEFI (secure boot) over non-secure (legacy option you chose). Take images of each BIOS screen & reset the BIOS, then update the BIOS & reinstall Win.

Did you use the Ms W10 tool to create the install media? Did you get the latest ISO from MS's website directly? DId you validate the ISO's MD5?

What issues did you run into when virtualising this?

Thank you for your reply bud.

Yes I used the W10 tool to create the install media. None the less though, I have told the client to get a system running windows 7 or so but yeah I could not get it figured out to install the Windows 10 32bit version.
