Howzit guys

I just need to know something, re wifi channels.

Are there any better ways to manage the wifi channels, besides having it on auto. I normally manually switch between channels, but whats the general view on which channels are best on 2.4 and 5Ghz.

Its a pain to have to manually switch, if the channel thats set, isnt performing well. Can one avoid interference or channels overlapping, and if so what can one look out for?

Install a wifi scanner on your phone and scan, this will show you all the wifi networks around you and the channels they use. Will give you a good idea what is going on and what you can set your channels to.

Assuming the problem is interference from your neighbors wifi, get a mobile scanning app and check which channels those SSIDs are on, and try to find a channel for your AP that is the furthest away from your neighbors - which may be easier said than done when theres interference from multiple APs.

On 2.4ghz, there are only 3 non-blocking channels (1,6,11), so ideally you'd want your neighbors to be on one to two of these channels, leaving the 3rd for yourself. However in practice, most APs broadcast on something in between, meaning that there will be some interference (e.g. AP broadcasting on ch3 will interfere to some extent on ch1 and 6).

Hence my suggestion of trying to find a channel furthest away from the occupied channels of the strongest strength.

Okay so neighbors need to move out. Lol. Will have to check, as i pick up quite a few neighbors APs etc which is a pain

Get yourself unifi access points... Haha
But seriously every morning at about 3 the WiFi channels are automatically scanned and the best are chosen

Wouldnt mind getting mesh or unifi stuff, but the pockets dont allow for all those fancy stuff now.
