I'm finding more & more games that I enjoy recommend using a controller, Cuphead for eg.

I'm almost a complete controller noob - I had an Xbone for 4 months...

So which one? Ideally I'd like wireless. Do I just grab a +-R600 jobbie like this MSI or this Logitech, or is it worth springing twice as much for something from Microsoft/Steelseries/etc?

I use a PS3 controller, I love it since ive been using PS controllers since PS1 days.

I highly recommend the Microsoft ones as these have always felt great in my hand.

I've typically found the cheapo ones to be a bit wonky when getting these setup for games, although they should be fine if you play around with the input settings. Maybe have a look around on carb for a microsoft controller?

Razer wolverine ultimate unless you can find a Astro C40 TR here in sa

Ps4 (DS4) Controller.
Works with steam - Even saves your configs for each game and remembers your controller, works over BT and on USB, cheap and easy to come by.

But how do you make your PS3 controller play well with Steam?

It works perfectly with a program called Scarlet Crush Productions.

Although the buttons show Xbox buttons and not PS buttons which isnt a biggie for me even though ive never used a xbox controller in my life.

You'll never go wrong with a Gen 2 Xbox One controller.

Or one of these if you're on a budget

Been using the PDP for a few months now and despite not being wireless the build quality is great and its been working flawlessly.

I was a ps controller fanatic, ds3 with motion in joy software, damn the good old days. Then ds4 with scptoolkit also awesome. And then I bought a Recon Tech Xbox controller and damn it's brilliant! Haven't touched my DS4 controller since.

Jus googled tha Recon Tech controller, looks great, n like it has good grip. When gaming for extended periods of time, hands get sweaty (especially now in summer), so that can get annoying. I've been using Xbox 360 Controllers for +-8 years now. Played ps4 at a friends place n tha controller felt way too small n light

PS3 Controller. Was a console pleb before i joined the elites. Still prefer the Ps3 one. DONT USE DS3 its a virus. use Scptool rather. its from Github and works better and uses Bluetooth

Anything "Xbox shaped" is very much worth it imo.

One not to forget about though is the Switch Pro controller. Way overpriced, but if you happen to have one, it will work. Some people forget it's steam compatible.

Sheesh, question thoroughly answered. Thanks very much to all the contributors (y)

It's tough to say which is the best as they all have their own unique feels, button layouts and what each to his own considers quality... even prices vary greatly.

I tend to go more for the xbox layout controllers as many games offer more support for the xbox/microsoft controllers.

Was an interesting question and I wanted to see what everybody would answer as well in case there was some special controller that I had overlooked ;)
