I just canceled my mtn supasonic as it was crap.

2mbps / 8mbps while paying for a 100pmbs line

Any advice on reliable bang for buck Fibre? Was paying r1100 a month and that can also go a lot cheaper.

Cheers

Cool Ideas & Afrihost.

Both have good prices but sometimes they are lacking in the support department.

Cool Ideas is pretty expensive compared to other providers if your line provider is Openserve.

Don't like their FUP

CISP are crap, took them 18 days to respond to a support ticket for my community CCTV uplink. Now i do not expect service in 0.0008ns but shit, this left no good experience with them.

When Vumatel installed in my area I went with Vox for the simple reason of them at-least being an existing internet player for many years and their pricing was on par with the limited offering of other players at the time.

Soon after this you saw the sea of pop and mom "ISP's" show up on the ISP option portal with some being a bit cheaper. Now listen reaaallll good. I am not saying these "ISP's" are all crap and Vox is king, I am stating that for the last 3 years I have not had a days issue with Vox and given the nature of these FTTH networks/offerings you are likely to be with any of the "ISP's" for quite some time before you have any issues. But when you do, just be sure that you will actually get support when you need it.

What one should probably also keep in mind is that some "ISP's" may have different FUP's and means of getting more value out of a subscriber. Also, it appears that California counting has made its way into some of the offerings.

Been with Home-Connect for about 3 years now on the MetroFibre network. No issues, logged a ticket for break in fibre once and had tech onsite the next day to resolve. Up/down speed has always been consitent.

Was with CISP, now with Afrihost Pure Fibre, very legit deal if you already have a line, 3 months free internet.

Anyways, so far so good, can't complain whatsoever and their customer service hasn't been bad I have to say, I like having the WhatsApp option.

I honestly have never experienced any throttling of any kind. I stream 95% of the time and download here and there.

Who was your FNO?

I am on supersonic, was on 200Mbps now on 100Mbps, running full taps all the way a long.

So ya, no hassles with Supersonic and if your speeds are constant on 8mbps, sound like something else and definitely not an ISP issue. Have you even tried a fault logging exercise?

EDIT - At a point on time, my international was peaking at 12Mbps... Reloading of windows fixed the issue. Nothing related to the line, just a very crappy windows update.

Depends on who you have available.

They are a bit expensive, but Metrofibre has been brilliant after installation was completed. I get texts of outages before I even realise something's up, which isn't even always the case - or it was so short that I don't even notice it.

So I pay R1210 for 50/50. Even international is always at that speed, without any softcaps or crap like that. I must've used at least 2TB during some months.

True I don't have much to compare it to and it could be the norm(it's my first fibre ISP and we've only been on them for a year), but coming from ADSL ISPs it has been a huge step up.

my complex only has MTN and TELKOM as network.

So my installation was MTN (then added smartvillage which later became supasonic) and now thus have to probably call Telkom and an added provider. That is probably a new installation fee to connect to the other manhole outside. With that in mind, is afrihost best on telkom network?
What is the minimum I need for a decent netflix experience?

One thing to note is I run at 2.4ghz wifi (had no issues getting decent speeds before) and they say high speeds only possible at 5ghz. Since I dont want 5ghz in the house, a directly wired to router sollution is probably what I am going to use for netflix besides regular 2.4ghz
