Hi All,

Not sure where to post this, but guess this goes sort of modding your man-cave ;)
Does anyone know where I can purchase this foam for the wall? I am in CPT.

Thanks!

It's expensive because it's a sound deadening foam. It's TOTALLY unnecessary unless you're doing some sort of studio recordings and things in there. The universally accepted "cheap" version of this is some expanding foam and empty egg cartons. Doesn't look the best raw, but when given a thin coat of spray paint they actually don't look too bad.

Another alternative is acoustic panels, although it doesn't deaden sound, it just catches loose sound like echos.

Something I've been wanting to do, not only for acoustics, but for aesthetics.

Check these guys out - I think they manufacture to spec and supply to the public.

I can agree that this is overkill - but I do get alot of echo on my mic.

Or egg cartons, they work well for noise deadening.

@CryptoFYI-Crow you can leave blank spaces every alternate space like a chess board to make them go further.

@UFDisciple where did you get yours?
The last time UFDisciple responded to anything on Carbonite that's not directly related to his site or sales was July 2nd, 2018. Doubt he'll answer.

Another also relatively cheap method is building a box and stuffing it with a ton of rolled up towels 😂

I'm not all that fond of amazon imports but in this case it's well worth it.
They have a huge selection and it's soooooo much cheaper than it is here. You can pick up good quality blocks for $50 a pack (12 in a pack).

What about this for a foam wall? A lot less cheaper;)

Click me!

Hahaha, that will look great!! :p
I mostly want the foam just for aesthetics, but it will also help a bit as my mancave is very close to the main bedroom. Non the less, so far Amazon imports looks the cheapest.

What I've used in the past when recording vocals is a reflection filter:

There are a few options... Essentially, it prevents a lot of reverb from the room while not costing you a fortune to do acoustic treatment in the room.

It's not cheap though.

Nice thanks, here is the supplier ;)
Aliexpress

Edit: Although Amazon still seems like a better deal, especially when it comes to shipping.
Amazon was just nicer in terms of convenience. I buy, they deal with import/customs stuff, and then I just receive the product. Buying things and forgetting about them until they're delivered is how I like to do it.

You dont have to pay so much. Just find out who is the supplier and contact them for bulk. R700 each is stupid, even for recording. I'm a musician and I record frequently, this will probably cost me R100k just for my one wall!

I worked in the UK for a long while, one project was the Media Center buildings for the London Olympics. Some of the larger rooms were covered with a material that was / looked similar to pond filter medium or duvet material (just thinner) that covered the walls. I spent hours in those rooms and never got used the lack of echo. It's not pretty but functional (it works). Otherwise consider making your own with a mold and sista filler foam, then paint the individual blocks. Should be better than egg cartons.

Do you need to cover the whole room for it to have a legit difference in recording or will a wall or two work?

The more the better but will be expensive as u can see, that's why most people just cover one wall cuz it's more cost effective than covering the whole room. By covering the whole room you no longer have a room[emoji28] u will have a studio. To set up a studio cost a ton of money.

You can also use duct tape, it works well to reduce sound...

I think these people can help:

But it still won't be cheap. Getting them from china will be a lot cheaper, but shipping will still be problematic.
