Download OBS from streamlabs. It free and 90% of streamers are using this software.

You don't specifically need a webcam but you may need to get a capture card if you're using a regular HD Cam. You'll need to Google it.

Failing that just buy a Logitech HD C920. Probably the best usb webcam for streaming in my opinion.

THANKS

bugger so my 2x HD cams ive got wont really work.

I streamed (casually) my Celeste speedruns & practice (less casual..) at my old place - now waiting 4 months to get a landline from Telkom >.< - but I do still upload my PBs to YouTube for leaderboard submission.

Is it not cheaper to buy a webcam for now?

@ViVception can we get a sticky thread going for our Carbonite streamers so the guys and gals can have a place to link their channels?

Might be a way to promote streams and probably easier to find.

Standout issue streamers in SA face is time zones.

I stream twitch.tv/palala

My biggest issue with streaming honestly is the fact that we have to use relay servers and the insane ping on some games (RIP me anytime I play R6S)

Been streaming for about 18 months on the twitch platform and if I can give a few pointers for starting out I would suggest these:

1) Use relay servers. It's a no brainer. You have a couple of options. Cool Ideas, Mweb amongst others
2) When starting you will not have transcoding option (eg 360p, 480p etc). Due to the poor quality of most ZA internet do not stream on 5k bitrate on 1080p. Just because your net can handle it, it does not mean your local audience net can as well. My suggestion, somewhere between 480p and 720p +-2.5-3k bitrate. Trust me this is one of the most important things. Once you get going and build an audience you will get options and then up your quality to 720p 60fps or 1080p if you wish.
3) Mic audio is NB make sure you tweak your audio setting in OBS, there are so many options available and good audio quality goes a long way.
4) Stay consistent and stream during peak hours. Due to our timezone from about 5pm to midnight fits in with eu and you can potentially pull more viewers.
5) Enjoy your game you playing and stream what you want, but just know that large AAA+ titles are all way too over saturated with content and you will be so far down the twitch list no one will find you. For your best chance at building a larger audience, stream something that is not so oversaturated with content (smaller title game). This is not a rule, but is well known to improve your chances.
6) Network with other steamers. When you done streaming host someone and send your viewers over to them, they will in turn return the favour at some stage. Build those relationships. There is a twitchZA discord that has a bunch of local streamers and all are very supportive.
7) This is subjective. Get a webcam. You can pickup relatively cheap 720p webcams to start out with. Unless you are the next shroud, people won't always stick around for gameplay only. Give them an option to connect with you on a more personal level and a webcam assists with this immensely.
8) This is obvious, but be interactive with chat. Engage with their comments and lead conversations. This is very easy to do on a small scale so give it your best shot. Nothing worse than finding a new channel with 0-5 viewers and it's dead quiet for 10 minutes.
9) Don't get disheartened. There are millions of streamers and building a viewer base takes some time. Keep at it.

Goodluck and have fun

Where are you guys hiding?
I don't see many local Twitch Streamers at all really.

If any of you DO stream....
What has your experience been?
Any standout issues we face in good ol' South Africa?

I've been so busy with work that my gaming and streaming had to almost take a backseat - I was hoping by now the pandemic might have f'd off but clearly it hasn't and won't for a long time, so I need to give all my friend some attention.

I've always enjoyed streaming - made some great friends via it.

The only issue I think is that people don't really support the smaller streamers - they find those larger ones and give them all the attention. The ones who do support the smaller streamers, if you don't give them enough attention, they move onto the next person who will but as it is with everything, many come and those that matter stay.

I expect to see a follow:
:D
