Good day all,

Looking for advice regarding my dead GPU.

I have a MSI GeForce GTX 1070 Ti GAMING 8G which seems to have been damaged by lighting ( fortunately the rest of my PC is working).
The fans and RGB lights work but non of the display ports seem to be working.

Unfortunately I don't know have the knowledge nor equipment to test it in order to find out if it is repairable.

It is still under warranty with MSI but unsure if lighting damage is covered (just started to esquire with them).

If anyone has any suggestion please do share them with me.

Apologies if I have posted this in the wrong place.

Many thanks in advance.

How do you know it was lighting that caused it? Insurance, Household contents should cover this??

Take it back to the supplier and say your GPU stopped working...

If they tell you that their tests reveal it was the lighting, then so be it...

I know a guy that got a replacement... Lightning struck his LNB, which zapped his TV, and his GPU (because his PC was also connected to the TV)

Insurance did actually cover it for a new one. Wanted to see if I could repair it and maybe sell it or build another PC.

@ScorpioMan86 . He fixes anything.

I'm looking for the fans. Have you tried using it in another PCIE port and using onboard display and see if Windows detects it etc etc.

Very similar situation. Lighting hit near the house and damaged the network system which traveled via the LAN cable into my PC which then took out my TV via my HDMI cable. This is what we suspect at least.

But that is a good idea, shall see if the supplier can do anything.

New GPU works on the same PCIE port that is was plugged into. A local PC shop tested it out for me, unsure to what extent they tested it unfortunately they weren't able to provide a detailed report. Just stated U/S due to lighting.

If I can't find a way to repair it I shall be happy to sell the fans.

Shouldnt you send it to the insurance company since they gave you a replacement?

Typically insurance collects the salvage.

But like in my case, Eskom killed my HP Microserver so I claimed for it and decided not to replace it.

Waited four weeks for them to collect, constantly rescheduling when they wanna come by and then all of a sudden they were like "were not gonna collect anymore"

3 weeks later I managed to fix the HP server by shear dumb luck, guess I got lucky but not all insurance companies collect salvage for small things.

Insurance company wasn't interested in the GPU at all.

Going to send it to retail shop and see if the warranty shall cover it.

Thanks for the advice.

PS the Lightning was soo bright that the lighting destroyed my GPU;);)
