Hi all, I have this strange issue where if I loose fibre connectivity I cannot access my Local shares on my PC via any device.

VLC identifies the share as an SMB but its just literally just a normal network share such as right clicking on the folder then say share this folder, every thing works perfectly until the CPE loses fibre connection then it can't be accessed and the video stops playing.

Also if I lose connectivity the Wi-Fi sometimes acts up by saying authentication error and accessing the router is slow for some reason.

My network is as follows: CPE -> Wan port on router 1 then a ethernet cable connects router 1 and router 2 via LAN port 1 to LAN port 2 on router 2.

Any ideas? Thanks.

This makes no sense to me to be honest.

Kill the DHCP relay...
(You have connected the LAN ports of the routers together, they form a single LAN)

I might be wrong but surely DHCP shouldn't cause an existing connection to drop? Only new devices looking for an IP address would be affected. I'd kill the relay nonetheless though. No need when you effectively have one network.

What DNS are you using? If your PC or the router is set to use something like 8.8.8.8 or 1.1.1.1 then their connection to that will be lost when the fibre goes down and suddenly your network has no DNS. Obviously it doesn't actually need it for the local stuff but the router might get confused nonetheless.

Ok, ive disabled DHCP relay on the second router with no change to my issue.

Im using DNS 1.1.1.1 and 8.8.8.8 but this is for internet and not local network.

Im still stumped to know why i have this issue.

Can I suggest setting your DNS to either your router’s IP address or auto just to see?

Ill test in a bit, but does this mean if it is a DNS issue will that mean ill have to manually input 1.1.1.1 into all my devices?

Set your router's DNS to google, the rest can then just go via DHCP.

Are you using an IP address or a name to access the share?
If you get the same issue when you use the IP address then it isn't a DNS issue.

Ive tried both, both have the same issue.
