I didn't want to fill the Ampere thread with more Watch Dogs stuff, so I made this thread instead.

At the moment this game runs like trash on my PC. 60% utilization of a 3080 at 1440p Ultra, massive frametime spikes and regular drops to +-55FPS in the open world even with RTX on medium with medium shadows and DLSS.

Even capping it to 50FPS or 30FPS doesn't help a lot, there are still huge frametime spikes and it just feels bad.

Seems like Ubi knew about this, another patch is coming just 1 day after launch.
Watch Dogs: Legion is starting to be available around the world and we are seeing a lot of players jumping in, recruiting members for their own DedSec resistance in our near-future London. We are excited to finally be able to share the game with you and we want to thank you all for your support, the amazing fan art we’re seeing on social media, and the feedback you’re sharing with us.

Based on feedback, we’re deploying a hotfix to address the performance issues we’re seeing on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. This hotfix has already been deployed on PS4 and Xbox, and it is coming to PC on Friday, October 30th. We will continue monitoring your feedback in the meantime to respond accordingly.

Patch Notes:
  • Global performance improvements on PS4 for smoother gameplay/driving
  • Made several improvements to PC performance
  • Optimized performance to improve framerates for RTX GPUs
  • Fixed an issue that caused framerate drops to occur when characters walk through checkpoints
  • Improved the framerate performance when driving
  • Fixed a freeze when switching input controllers on PC
  • Fixed sporadic crashes on PS4
  • Fixed sporadic crashes on Xbox One/S
  • Fixed an issue that could cause the game to crash when launched on a console set to TURKISH, INDONESIAN, GREEK, ROMANIAN, HUNGARIAN, VIETNAMESE or THAI languages
  • Fixed an issue that could cause the game to crash on Xbox One X when selecting a certain option in the Into the Void mission
  • Fixed an issue that could cause the game to crash when browsing through the Premium Shop tabs on Xbox One

We’re also seeing players on PC experiencing crashes when playing on an outdated Windows version. We recommend updating your OS to updates 1903 or 1909 at the minimum, and strongly suggest having the latest OS system version installed when running the game.

We will update this thread with the exact maintenance timings as soon as they are confirmed.

I still haven't played watchdogs 2 due to it running like utter crap on my setup, so won't be picking up Legion any time soon either it seems.

Honestly I'm miffed that Nvidia gave us this trash game instead of Valhalla :ROFLMAO:

Had to fork out almost R1k for Valhalla!

Or Cyberpunk.

Uplay Plus is what I'm going to get when AC Valhalla arrives .

R330 pm but for the price of AC Valhalla Ultimate edition and you can have 8 months of access instead to play Watch Dogs Legion Ultimate, AC Valhalla Ultimate, Far Cry 6 Ultimate with many older games too.

is it just me or does the game look a bit blurry, i am playing on ultrawide but even on ultra settings the game looks shit. Maybe i was expecting it to look better. Dont even mention the FPS jesus, as soon as you drive the FPS goes to shit

Update to the latest Nvidia drivers. Helps with CPU utilization. Hopefully the PC patch comes out soon as well.

I pre loaded this game, but I never liked Watch Dogs and after reading the initial impressions I'm just going to delete the pre load. Not my type of game. Wish Nvidia gave us Valhalla or Cyberpunk instead.

Thats mostly the DLSS that contributes to the blur, especially in motion.

I disabled motion blur but also went to the third tab by brightness and gamma where you can find a sharpness slider and used that to make it look better.

That is odd. I am getting 100% utilisation. Everything now maxed out (except the slider for extra details) and its 60fps with the occasional drop to like 55. But gameplay smooth for me

Gpu strix oc profile and my temps are 70deg c

Edit: is there someone who can tell me what the difference especially between high and Ultra rt reflections are?

This game needs cores/threads. On my i7-7700 all 4 cores and all 4 threads hit 100% usage at 4000MHz playing this game, so I would often be at > 80% CPU usage and the GPU (RTX2070S) would drop to 60% lol.

This is at 1440p Ultra with DLSS set to Balanced and Motion Blur off, to be clear.

I mostly managed 50 - 60 FPS with those settings, dipping to the high 30s near Westminster where NPC count seems to be higher.

Seems to be a combination of driver support and bad optimisation right now. I'm also not keen on all the third party software this game is running, there's anti-cheat software (but no online yet?), eye-tracking software (???), MSI integration presumably for RGB reasons, and then I'm certain Denuvo's running too, so...

If performance is priority, then I would give the game a month or two before even thinking about returning to it.

Well I'm at 60% utilization with my 8 core 16 thread 5GHz 9900k, and still not near at 100% GPU utilisation.

After the driver it has improved, but I'm still seeing 70-80% utilization on a 3080 with a few settings lowered .

I have noticed the GPU utilization is much higher if you switch everything to Ultra including RTX and disable DLSS.
But then the the FPS is just not what I like. I can't deal with 55 fps dips, I'd rather wait and see what today's update brings as it specifically mentions the exact issues, particularly the one about driving :

- Made several improvements to PC performance
- Optimized performance to improve framerates for RTX GPUs
- Fixed an issue that caused framerate drops to occur when characters walk through checkpoints
- Improved the framerate performance when driving

Patch is out on Uplay. From Ubisoft forum feedback it sounds like it didn't fix performance but will try it out.

Well it definitely feels smoother with more consistent frametimes and less lag.

But the FPS is not there, what crap performance. On a 5GHz 9900K and overclocked 3080 I can't even maintain a solid 1440p/60 with medium RTX and quality DLSS, even when lowering a few settings like shadows, headlights and environment as recommended in the Hardware Unboxed video.

It seems that lowering settings just seems to drop the GPU usage and only increases your FPS by a small amount. Still seeing GPU usage dip into the 70s. Only way to get full GPU usage is to disable DLSS and max everything, which runs at a lovely 47fps...

Disappointing. Will come back to it after a few patches as I'm very sensitive to dips below 60 on my monitor (one of the main reasons I moved on from my 1080Ti, I can just imagine how poorly that would've faired).

Gonna play Dark Pictures Little Hope instead. AC Valhalla should run much better.

Gotta say thanks for reminding me about UPLAY +, saved me some serious cash

Did fuckall for me for perfomance ...well in the bench ive run

This game runs like crap even after the Nvidia drivers and game patch. My FPS hovers around 50 - 60 on ultra 1440p on R5 3600 and 3080.

Are you guys also having this issue?

Yes, I have this issue and It is really bad.

Hopefully they release a patch to optimize performance.

But they did [emoji848]

Apparently they still busy with a performance focused patch. I know that a patch came out last week, but it did not seems to improve performance much.

You can blame Denuvo on performance issues, shits basically a virus.

Does anyone know if you can activate a US key on our accounts? I mean its easy to log in to the US store through your account and purchase in USD instead of Euros and save yourself some money.

I am a little p.....ed off with this game. Look it has been a while that a game pulled me in and I just continued to play because I enjoyed it. At first I dropped Watch Dogs Legion after playing for an hour, but when I saw @Nyt Ryda 's post about the memory temps of the 3080 while playing and the poor performance I thought I'd give it another go. Well I got hooked, but at present I am where I will drop it because the game does not do what it should. At present I have to listen in on a meeting through a camera network which I hacked but inside I need to use the camera I hacked to access another camera. Well in that I have a problem, as that camera cannot be accessed on my setup.

I would try checking a Youtube walkthrough of that mission and see if there's not another camera that you're missing to get closer to the other camera.

HI man, no, when you hacked it you see the parking with the meeting happening that you need to spy on and in that parking lot is a camera visible but I do not get the Q to access option.

Bought this this week for my son, game crashes continuosly.
Running a 1080ti

Not sure if it works in Legion, but it worked for me on Watch Dogs 2
Just add -disablepagefilecheck to the shortcut.

X:\Games\WD\watch_dogs.exe" -disablepagefilecheck
