Guys, please be very careful trading PayPal dollars ...

I received an email from PayPal as follows:

Dear RIK,

We are writing to let you know one of your buyers opened a case for this transaction. The buyer stated that they did not authorize this purchase.

Here are the case details:

Buyer information:
mark goldkorn

  • Buyer's name: luxury renegades
  • Buyer's email: [email protected]
  • Buyer's transaction ID: 0K355076DY244870S
  • Transaction date: 08 December 2019
  • Transaction amount: $62,34 USD
  • Disputed amount: R966,46 ZAR

I did 2 transactions with this low life fraudster, the other being $50

I of course have proof on my side, this guy WILL NOT get away with this crap.

Glad you were smart enough to not fall for their tricks

I think buying off users here with absolutely no credibility, is a high risk.

Mods should allow feedback for virtual currency so legit guys can earn credibility.

Yeah I figured a guy was trying to scam me when he insisted on paying me via PayPal and when I insisted he pay me via EFT or COD he immediately blocked me. Nobody legit would insist on PayPal.

Transaction of $80 was concluded on the 7th of December 2019, now months later a charge back claim which I tried to dispute with PayPal to no avail as of today. The amount of $80 plus a charge back fee of $10 was deducted from my PP balance today. I sent them all correspondence and details I have on the person and still they side with a scammer. Have now escalated it to fraud.

I queried him on this via PM and he claims he has no recollection of requesting a reversal and will look into it.

I initially questioned the fact that he has (had) resseller status and is (was) a VIP supporter, but no trader ratings or confirmed sales reference.
Never the less, seemed legit as he owns (assumingly) Laptops South Africa at cheapest prices best service in South Africa. Notebooks at Laptop Direct.

PM convo as follows on 7 December 2019 :

Yes I know, am new as a reseller but have sold quite a bit in my pvt capacity. I will have a couple ratings up soon though
I will send u the other $100 dollars as soon as u send your PayPal address. If u happy to trust me? I will send 1st if u like?
i actually have 80 available, i must have a subscriptoion or 2 go off last night...would still be of interest to you?

They have a case number and everything. If this is not you, then someone has gotten access to your PayPal account.
Def looks like it, I did get a notification over a month ago to say there was a suspicious log in but I could not find any activity on the account. I will look into it.

Thanks. I immediately reported it as scamming activity, before knowing it was your account. Had to then go check whom the person is, as the name did not ring a bell.

What's odd is why would they try to do this? Someone messing with you? Anyhow, you obviously need to change your login detail asap.
Not quite sure why or how but there must be angle somewhere. Am going to look into this and find out what, how, and who? I am sure it will just be a formality. Will keep you posted.
As of today, that is the last I have heard from him.

UPDATE:

I just received a PM from @laptopdirect.jhb Mark who claims to know nothing of this reversal and will handle it with the bank tomorrow.

In light of the above comment, I retract my comment calling him a low life fraudster, and do hope we resolve the disputes quickly, as I have an insider at RMB who is very close to me and will make this very ugly for Mark if it drags on for even a few more days.

Similar reply from him a few minutes ago:

I have received an email from PayPal regarding the issue. It seems the dispute gas risen from my credit card company. PayPal themselves, are closing the dispute but I need to get in touch with my bank tomorrow and see why it was flagged, especially such a long while after.

Will revert with more info asap.

Want to give the benefit of doubt, but then he did mention that he has\had the funds in his PayPal balance. So why would this now be disputed via his credit card company?

My worry is that he has other open sales threads and could just play for time to catch a few more members.

Hopeful that's not the case though, but until he can clear his name, I'd advise potential buyers to hold off. Mods, please keep an eye on this.

Hi guys,

I can assure you that this is an error and was not initiated by me, the first I heard about it was from @B-Hawk and @RIK and am obviously pretty alarmed by all of this. I will revert as soon as I have more info tomorrow, so pls reserve judgement until after that.

P.S. also just to clarify, i am not affiliated with the website listed above http://laptopdirect co.za and never made claims to be to anyone ever...

You must realise that we are aslo only looking out for our fellow Carb members here and I will openly apologise if it turns out to be an error from your banks side?

I can appreciate that, and empathise with your position. No need for public apologies, etc, I just want to resolve it because it needs to be done. I don't blame you or Rik for being suspicious, I would probably react in the same manner, if not worse. Thanks mate, bare with me and I have no doubt it will be resolved quickly.

Hey guys, just my 2c, same thing happened to me on Facebook Market place although, I did not conclude the transaction. I received interest from 4 different individuals - these 4 were actually one person that was trying to make 3 of the 4 look like scammers and the 4th a real person. Reported the profiles to Facebook. 2 out of the 4 gave an address linked to Kempton Park.

I have never heard of any FI doing a reversal of funds unless you, the account holder had requested it.

The FNB process is by filling in a document for unauthorized transaction and they then reverse it.

Hoping for your quick response.
