@superrob I see you were interested in the 256 GB model. You dodged a bullet not buying it second hand at that price. Here is my invoice from Amazon from a 2 weeks ago. Under the R9500 and mine included one of the best head straps and an alternate link cables. I ordered it on Thursday and it arrived the next Tuesday!

Also wait for the 128 GB version that will be available in the next 2 weeks. Will drop another R1000-R1500 off the price and it's going to be very difficult to fill 128 Gb of space. Fames are small (2-8GB) so we are not talking massive downloads here if you need to make space and redownload something. To be honest me going for the 256GB version was a "why does a dog lick it's balls situation" ;P.

If you are interested in wired PCVR don't be tempted to buy the official cable, waste of money. Mine broke about 3 months of very light use. The alternate cable has a faster bandwidth than my oculus cable...Then again with options like Airlink and Virtual Desktop I'm using the cable less and less.

As @AndyPants said, this is the place if you have any questions. VR is super exciting and always happy to share with those looking to get into it.

thanks you guys! really glad @AndyPants tagged me in this too. Old VR user, mostly for simulation games, and started off with a Rift, then had a RIFT S for about 5 minutes, it was SHITE because I could not use it with my gaming headset.
Now looking at the quest 2 or the HP reverb 2, but those are RARE and stupid expensive, again for someone using it for sitdown sims mostly.
I still wont mind a second hand one, but at a fair price for being second hand, not at new....

Canon knows where it's at!

VR Porn's about to get really pro

Good to see the big players making serious hardware and software investments into this space

I have an extra key for "Until You Fall", only one though so happy to give it to the first person who asks for it here. Steam key through Humble Bundle.

All I know is that it is a good place to LARP and silently hang around like a creep. Just make sure you bring a friend, it can be quite daunting to go at it alone, unless, you know, you like that kinda thing. That's just my 2 cents tho. Its got really good reviews and is a very small download so give it a shot.

What is? Until You Fall? Pretty sure it is single player

Are you perhaps confusing "After the Fall" with "Until you Fall" :

Hi, all!

So where is everyone getting their VR equipment from? I last got my Lenovo Explorer from Importitall for around R6000. Keen on the HP Reverb G2 rev.2 but I don't know what websites to trust. I'm finding it for a nice price on VRoom but haven't had a response about it being the newest update.

Any advice?

I get my hardware from Amazon - shipping is super fast and all tax and duties is handled before you complete your checkout - if they overestimated the tax you get the difference back a month or so later, if they underestimated the tax they pay it.

Is there a particular reason you want the Reverb? What do you want to do in VR?

I want to do more of the same. I play some light games (Elite, DIRT, Beat Saber, etc.) and I plan to look into VR game development once I'm done with my current game (but that depends on which way the wind blows).

I considered the Varjo Aero (for game dev) but I just can't justify the cost. I find the Reverb's high resolution very appealing (especially for Elite) and it's the type of tracking I know already and can only assume it's gotten a lot better since however many years I've had my Lenovo.

I had a peak at Amazon but the one I found had all sorts of bad reviews about them being refurbished units. How does it work? Like Takealot?

hey just for interest sake, are u doing the VR development as a hobby or as a professional?

Wheres the rest? in your last video you said you were going to structure it nicely and then? .. its been over half a year
That's the problem isn't it! Work get's so busy I just don't have time for working on the game. I had a little bit of time over this last week so that bear mage enemy is in and working :)

We closed around the 23rd, and open again yesterday. I suppose it's a good thing having so much work, I need to pay my salary and two others...

Those reviews are worrying - seems like all of them moan about the cable as well.
However - seeing as the G2V2 was only announced on 21October 2021 ( Article Article ) - and tech news outlets only published reviews in November 2021 - any reviews before that were surely the OG version.
I don't know what the situation is with refurbished units - as far as I've experienced, if the listing didn't state "refurbished" then I received a brand new item and Amazon's returns procedure has been very easy to deal with for me thus far.

Working in the VFX space I assume you have the hardware to actually drive a G2's resolution?

Have you seen Thrillseeker's review - it sounds like the tracking space has improved a bit but the latency issues seem to still be present - and the ability do deal with and recover from occlusion is fairly poor when compared to other options out there.
That won't bug you in Elite or Dirt and that's where the resolution will shine but (going by reviews) any FPS games are problematic.

For VR dev - there has been quite a movement of a standardization of controller functionality and button layout - and that includes capacitive finger sensing on the controllers. Many games and experiences make use of this functionality and doing dev work on a test bench that does not support this will be limiting.

So this is my suggestion, use it/don't use it, is up to you
- Get a Quest 2 from Amazon.
- It's cheap (comparatively)
- (For Dev) it's the market leading platform, 39% of headsets on steam
- (For Dev) it's basically two platforms for the price of one, Qualcom XR2 freestanding and PC-VR headset (with Link)
- (For Dev) controllers are the ones that set the industry standard
- (For Dev) it's a platform that has a large future investment, comparatively any other platform(except maybe Valve) is currently on shaky ground and the future of those platforms are unsure.

- If you end up not liking it - sell it and then get the Reverb, many Quests get sold here on carb for pricing that boggles the mind - by that time there could be newer headsets on the market or al least you can get a few more reviews of the G2V2.

Wow, thanks, Andy!

The game dev is in the back of my mind and a very small part. But your points are valid though! I want to stick in that "why not both?" meme! Also the more I look into actually getting the G2 the more problems I see.

I'm on a 5950x with an RTX 3090 and 128 gigs of RAM so I'm good :) That being said I'm also now seeing issues with the G2's cable and AMD boards specifically.

I'm honestly a bit disappointed, but it seems that the Quest 2 will actually arrive in proper condition and actually work! I just hope my little Pi-Hole doesn't make Facebook upset and brick it!

I'm going to let it sit in the checkout while I mull it over a few nights. Who knows, VRoom might actually respond to my email.

Oh geez now I don't know...

Once I've made my mind up I'll report back what the buying experience is like.

I would 100% buy the Elite strap rather than the cable (I did this)

- I play wirelessly over Airlink - I don't even own a cable - but it does deteriorate the image some
- I just value wireless over image quality (you honestly can only judge wireless once you've tried it)

get a 3rd party cable for under R500

Buy from the official Amazon Oculus Store not from 3rd party resellers
