Your RX470 is going to suffer in PCVR. I had a GTX 1070 and even that had trouble on the Rift S which is lower resolution that the Quest 2.Thinking of getting the Quest 2 from Amazon now. Would the 64GB be suffice though? Also, should I get a link cable from amazon at same time or does the virtual desktop work well enough? (also only have an rx470 so might not even work in first place)
Yea I thought as much haha. Only want it connected because some of my games already have VR and don't want to have to buy them again.Your RX470 is going to suffer in PCVR. I had a GTX 1070 and even that had trouble on the Rift S which is lower resolution that the Quest 2.
As a standalone headset I would highly recommend it and the 64 GB is more than enough space if internet data caps aren't an issue for redownloading games when you feel like a change. My computer is more than beafy enough for VR and I spend 10% of my time on it using link.
Whish he did a side by side comparisonI take it back. Seems he has finally gotten around to actually testing the Quest 2.
I do feel my experience has been clearer than what he is showing. What has your guys experience been?
Boneworks is also insane. 20% off. Some awesome specials on Steam: Steam Search (steampowered.com)
Half-Life: Alyx 25% off
Eleven: Table Tennis VR 50% off

Hi BearmanDon't know if this is the right place to ask, but going to anyway. I have to buy a VR headset (setup) for my school, and I thought about getting the Oculus Quest 2, link cable, nicer headset strap and a Stronk Laptop or PC to go with this.
Is there anything wrong with my thinking? It's going into it's own room in the Library, where we expect kids to walk on the ISS, explore the great barrier reef, etc.
Any advice would be appreciated. And do I buy local? Any well known places? Or do I order direct from Oculus / Amazon?
Agree with the above - you quite possibly do not need a PC, you may be surprised at how good the standalone experiences on Quest are.Don't know if this is the right place to ask, but going to anyway. All great points.Hi Bearman
Sounds like a fun initiative. I would definitely go with the Oculus Quest 2 because:
1) It is a standalone platform with a growing catalogue of educational content both paid and free. There are numerous 3D experiences freely available related to fields such as space exploration, the ocean and many more. One of the first immersive experiences I downloaded was a 3D Jurassic Park video created by Universal Studios for the Quest 2. Thoroughly enjoyable since it really gives one a feel of scale you can't get in 2D media.
2) It's wireless both through something such as Virtual Desktop (if connected to a PC) or standalone. Given your use case a cable will definitely be a liability with so many users.
3) The Quest 2 will be both the lowest cost and easiest to operate in terms of a user friendly experience. You don't need to set up any lighthouses for tracking, everything is self contained. You could set it up in any class room or gym hall within less than 5 minutes! I mentioned it before but when it comes to alternative headsets the reality is you can buy 2 Quest 2's for the price of the competition which would be a plus when you have students waiting their turn.
It may seem like I haven't really sold any of the alternatives but the reality is the competition to the Quest is aimed at enthusiasts looking for the highest possible fidelity and don't care about setup logistics or cost. They generally require a significant amount of initial setup, are limited by direct cable connections and operate on unfortunately a platform that will be receiving less development than the Quest 2 (at least for the moment)
PS When it comes to t beefy computer I would almost suggest using the Quest 2's standalone for education purposes, rather opting for more headsets. Unless you have specific PC VR content you are aiming to use in your curriculum. Anyway always happy to discuss further if you have any more questions.
Quest 2 at the same price (and cheaper depending on specials etc) is a better purchase.Rift S is 299 on Amazon
Good for you. Was listing a price, not trying to convince anyoneQuest 2 at the same price (and cheaper depending on specials etc) is a better purchase.
Rift S is officially obsolete
No.No.No. Good for you for the pointless post.Good for you. Was listing a price, not trying to convince anyone
What a legend! Thanks a lot! My Quest 2 arrives on Wednesday, apparently.Happy new year all. I have a duplicate key for Creed: Rise to Glory on Steam.
