Hello

Ordered vodacom fibre Saturday (only provider in the complex) and I would just like some info from people that are using them

1) Does vodacom give you access to the router they supply. I have my own fibre router I would like to use but when I told them that they said I would have to pay R900 or something installation fee if I want to use my own router. I just want to know if I'll be able to get the login information so I can do the setup myself. Asked vodacom guy and he couldn't tell me

2) How strict are they with fair use policy. I order the 100/100mbps uncapped package for R1599 per month on a 12 month contract. The capped price is R1399 for 1tb data. I asked the vodacom guy if it would be fair to assume I should be able to use at least 1tb data per month on the uncapped package before I even need to worry about the FUP as it is more expensive than the capped package. He just said he doesn't know when the FUP kicks in on the uncapped packages.

And thus I find myself here :)

Got the answer for question number 2 from vodacom call centre. If anyone wanted to know here is the FUP breakdown:

4Mbps - 200GB
10Mbps - 500GB
20Mbps - 750GB
25Mbps - 500GB
40Mbps - 1500GB
50Mbps - 1100GB
100Mbps - 2200GB
200Mbps - 2200GB

I still think the people at the vodashop should be able to answer such a simple question

Hi

I can forward you a friends number he owns couple vodacom stores surely he can assist if keen pop me a pm thanks

I'm on Vodacom fibre.

Had to go for them as they are in my estate, asked the Vodacom guy when they installed that I want my own hardware etc, he looked at me blankly.

After install I wanted to do some port forwarding on my router.... couldn't log in. phoned Vodacom and they said they will give me access but after 24 hours the password will reset. I laughed at the lady and put the phone down.

Phoned the original sales dude who sold the estate the Vodacom deal, tuned him a new one and told him that they should come to remove Vodacom from our estate and we would rather go with vuma or something else.

24 hours later I had my login details so i could use my own hardware. haven't looked back since.

PS it is rather funny though when you phone Vodacom support and they ask for the MAC address of your router and you tell them you use your own hardware, then they get all smart-arsed and try play games.

anyway

Vodacom are the MultiChoice of ISPs and if you ask me should be boycotted where possible.

I got VC (on metrofibre infrastructure). Pretty much the only thing the sales guy said that was true was the price... Doesn't seem like Metrofibre likes dealing with them much either. C-Fibre didn't really care about FUP but VC sends SMSes and throttles you. They were cheaper than everyone else in my area though and turnaround on delivery/installation was quick.

You don't have access to the router. as Anth0ny says - they give you access for 24 hours to make whatever changes you want and that's it. I wasn't committed enough to even see what I was able to change. I was kind of worried about them blaming me for changing 'something' 2 months down the line if there is an issue (despite them not being able to say what that something is) which has happened to me before.

I am also with Vodacom as it was my only option. I simply disabled the wireless on their router and put my router after it, where I can make any changes I want. Not ideal but it works for me.

There is a thread on MyBB about hacking the Huawei router to retrieve your credentials to use on your own router. Well not really hacking but just sniffing the credentials.

Avoid contracts when it comes to internet service providers. Yes its fiber but ive seen a few horror stories with different isp's including vodascam. :p Stick with month to month so if you unhappy you can jump ship.

Nothing worse than having a paper weight for internet that you got to pay for still.

If all else fails I'll just do the same. Also sounds like they want the router back if I ever cancel the service. Everywhere on the paper work next to the router it says (leased) so I wanted to put it back in the box so there is no chance of it being damaged by the cats/kids

Update time

Installation is done everything up and running. They gave me a nokia router model G-240W-C. i have full access to the router so I am very happy with the outcome

There is a chance I move up the road this year and..... Vodacom fibre is the only option. Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

What is latency like?
General network performance?
Do they have an awesome app like Afrihost? or portal to monitor usage?

General network performance? very good. No troubles at all
Do they have an awesome app like Afrihost? or portal to monitor usage? There is an app yes but its very basic and takes a couple of days to update usage.

What did you guys use for the login for the Nokia router? I need to do a lot of port forwarding, but cannot find the login details.
