Hi all,

I'm looking to surprise my brother this Christmas by upgrading his PC... well, it's a desktop we share, so perhaps it's a gift for me too.

Unfortunately, due to the current GPU pricing, an upgrade there is out of the question.

Current Setup:
CPU: Intel i5-4460
CPU Cooler: Stock
Motherboard: Asus H97M-E
Memory: 8GB (2x4GB) 1600Mhz DDR3 (I can't remember the brand)
Storage: 240GB SK Hynix 2.5'' SATA SSD + 1TB WD Blue 7200RPM HDD
Video Card: ZOTAC GeForce GTX 1050 Ti OC Edition
Power Supply: 500W ANTEC VP500P

Proposed New Setup:
CPU: Intel i5-10400F (R2719, Rebel tech)
CPU Cooler: Hyper 212 Spectrum (R489, Rebel tech)
Motherboard: Asus Prime B560M-K (R1299, Wootware)
Memory: 16GB (2x8GB) G.Skill DDR4-3200 CL16 (R1359, Wootware)

My brother is into sim racing; Asseto Corsa Competizione and rFactor 2, just to name some. He is also into open-world games such as Fallout and Far Cry.
I know that the GPU needs a bit of an upgrade, but that really isn't feasible right now. I have also heard that the racing sims, especially Asseto Corsa Competizione, are quite CPU intensive.

What do you guys think? Decent upgrade, or not worth it?
Thanks

Get a I7 4790 or 4790k then that pc will perform much better with hyper threading and can still be used. (4460 aged poorly and it's like night and day difference when upgrading to a 4790) you can also look at the Xenon cpus with similar specs that are supported by that motherboard (might be cheaper)

Then you can buy the other pc still and have 2 x computers instead of sharing one.

Also look at getting a Amd Rx 580 or gtx 1070 for a good price as they still perform very good for a decent price (even the 4gb version)

Thanks for the tip. I already got the i5-10400f along with a compatible motherboard and RAM, but if I could get the old system up and running for just a little more cash, then why not?
Well it's a bit late now
Maybe a little 😁 but I appreciate the input.

Now to look for a decently priced 4790 (my motherboard is an H series, the k SKU is probably overkill), GPU, and PSU.

Thanks people 💪🏻
