Hey all.

I'm looking to get an upgrade kit(CPU - mobo - RAM) - probably Ryzen, probably second-hand - since my first-gen i7 setup is, shall we say, struggling a bit. But it seems I'm a bit out of the loop when it comes to upgrade kits, and the more of them I look at the less of the current 'norms' I feel I understand.

I'm feeling a lil out of my depth and I'm wondering what I should be looking at when it comes to newer upgrade kits; anything I should make sure to have in a mobo, anything to look out for, how much RAM is generally needed these days, etc.

I'm also a bit hung up on CPUs... Am I making a mistake going Ryzen? -- I was looking at a Ryzen 7 for a bit of future-proofing, but is this the right decision? -- Ryzen integrated graphics.... I've heard from some sources that it's entirely CPU dependent, and from others that it can depend on the motherboard...?

And help/advice is greatly appreciated.

What is your budget, and what do you want to do with the PC?

If I'm going second-hand, I'd like to stay below R6k? The price gap between Ryzen 5 and 7 upgrade kits (new) seems a bit intense, so I guess I'm considering either a new Ry5 kit or a second-hand 1st/2nd gen Ry7 kit.

Mostly planning on using it for gaming and coding; maybe minor video editing now and then and possibly a bit of game dev.

Why not go for an R5 3600/ 16gb ram and a b450 board? It should be way better than a 1st gen i7 and pretty sure you would be able to find all 3 for close to R6k

You can also have a look on here. From budget to top range upgrade kits

Thanks, I'm considering going this route; seems to be a bit over R6k - exactly 6 if I go through evetsek (yay). Just feels like bit of a shame to compromise on the mobo and CPU threads, so I'll have to think about how badly I want pretty lights. ;)
