Hi Carbies

I've got a problem here. I live in a complex without ADSL or Fibre. Therefore, my only option for decent internet is LTE.
I like the RAIN Uncapped LTE for R250, but I don't like the fact that I cannot go online from 6PM to 11PM without paying R50 per GB.

I recently saw 'this package' whilst searching for uncapped LTE.

Has anyone tried this, and what was your experience with this package like?

looks interesting - will mail them 2moro.
As above anyone using this aleady?

Monthly fly by nighters popping up every week

No mobile provider except telkom offers a 24hour uncapped LTE at a relatively okay price. Then a 2month old provider suddenly offers a better deal than everybody else? Pull a finger

Fools and their money part ways swiftly, you have been warned

Okay so i called them- they arround the corner from me.i will buy a sim as i am on telkom lte prepaid already and give it a test.

They use vodacom network
Speeds will slow dows beteen 6-10 at night
Pay in advance for the month- so for me i should have little risk.
Theu said i should ave39mbps

Yes i know they new but will see how it goes and report back.

If this works it should drop my internet bill by about 300bucks a month due to streaming eating my 100gn data deal up so fast.

Current package is 755pm on tellom prepaid and rain uncapped in the day @250pm.

Please let me know how it goes. I'll check back with you next month.
It's prepaid, if the service works and doesn't give you problems. I'll sign up in November

You know what. I just checked out MyBB.
It seems as if they aren't legit. Don't sign up, don't sign up!!(n)

Lol- i read the same

Internet is realy expensive - yara.

*IF* you have decent coverage, Afrihost's prices are decent. But even if you get the 100GB+100GB per month option, you're still capped and need to keep that in mind.

But seriously, if you go LTE, coverage is everything. At my girlfriend's I would get 4.4MB/s which is more than decent, but at home, on a good day, not during peak hours even, I would get at most, 0.01MB/s.

There's also skyfy but I haven't used it myself.

Did speed tesk now: 23dl and 6.5up with 15 pin in the rain lol

Thats not bad- i am like 500m max from tower. But streaming kills my data- moving to 200gb and 200gb plan makes me sick.

And not fibre

True, I like the Rain LTE package, but the 6 - 11pm peak time clause bothers me. If they throttled it to 5mbps during peak time, It would be perfect! I wouldn't mind paying double for that.

I'm currently using Afrihost's 100GB package. I like it a lot, but the 100GB cap bothers me because I want to get Netflix and drop DSTV.
I've looked into Skyfy, but they don't have coverage in my area :(

I guess I'll just have to live with Afrihost and its 100GB cap. Compared to my Afrihost package, Telkom Uncapped LTE is too expensive for a 150GB FUP.

Internet in this country is a royal screw up if you have to rely on LTE, and they are milking us clean (except for RAIN).

So my suggestion is, if you are using RAIN already and the 100GB bundle, just set all your devices to update outside the 6pm - 11pm period and download streams you plan to watch for offline viewing on Netflix.
(I found out just yesterday that Netflix doesn't allow quality selection and auto selects based on Line speed - so now when I do get decent internet, I am going to have to use QoS to fucking restrict Netlix just so it doesn't stream past 720p 😕 )

Purchase a load balancing router and have 2 x LTE modems (it's an expensive setup I know) and then you can at-least get the router to provide a connection 24/7 and it will automatically switch over between modems between 6 - 11.

That 150 fup is crap.

I have 100gb telkom day and night and i have to use rain.

Wife and i watch netflix ans dstv now alot and it chows data. I have settings set to low.

We have no anttenna so its all stream basically.

We use rain during the day as much as possible to conserve data. I only get 1 bar at home and 3 bars at work which is 2 kms away.

Fingers crossed for a better solution. Supersonic maybe- saw a thread on here aswell

Apparently there's a rumour of Telkom changing their FUP on Blackfriday for signups on their Uncapped LTE Network.

Webafrica now offering their month to month sim only offerings as well as their uncapped package month to month.
Got 3 x packages with them now.

Question is will they benefit from the new FUP when Telkom changes it.

PS.

Netflix actually does allow quality selction. For those that want to change it..

Log into Netflix on your browser
Select user
Go to Account (top right, drop down next to profile pic)
Select Playback Settings under My Profile
Select one of the following
- Auto
- Low (Up to 300mb/hour)
- Medium (up to 700mb/hour)
- High (up to 3Gb/hour)

Gueas i will stay on prepaid untilll black friday. Fingers crossed lol

I set my netflix down and used 10 gigs in one day on netflix, utube and dstv now.

Atleast i get 120gb day and night now

Yeah I realised this.

Last thing that would be super helpful confirmation is whether you can set the quality per specific profiles (the people who use your account on Netflix) or if it's just limited to each account.

Reason I ask is because we are currently using a friend's Netflix account and hoping I can set just our profile under their account to 480p/720p?

I believe its on profile- i did mine in all my profiles manually

I'm with Axxess and it's also Month to Month, I'm on a 50GB LTE Package and it's fairly good for Online gaming and the speed is decent. I'm not really having much issues. You get your odd lag spikes, but it's still better than signing yourself up on a 2 Year contract and hating every bit off it.

For gaming my comparison is I found much better performance running my LTE with a Huawei B525 or Huawei B618

So I've now got the following packages running on LTE now

1. Rain - ya know (no failover)

2 Webafrica - Fixed LTE Telkom Uncapped (failover 3G, works without any LTE coverage on Telkom 3G coverage)

3 Supersonic - Fixed MTN LTE (failover 3G pending full terms)

4. Axxess - Telkom's latest sim only deals 220+220 (Webafrica also offers it, failover 3G)

5. Vodacom Business LTE Fixed. Cheapest by far and they install within this week.

6. Openweb??

Anyone have any experience with Openweb LTE packages.

I see they have an Uncapped LTE package @R1499 and they provide higher speeds and a higher FUP.
Up to 12Mbps until 200GB, then up to 6Mbps until 350GB, then up to 3Mbps for the rest of the month

Although I have coverage LTE-A on Telkom, MTN and Vodacom they said they don't have coverage for me.

Who is their provider and does anyone have an Openweb LTE Package?

Speed average tests of 1 hour intervals (Upington Northern Cape)

1. 22down 18up
2. 10down 10up
3. 34down 12up
4. 78down 33up
5. 34down 22up
6. ?

My point is the speeds are location dependant of course.

But my ping on each network was better with nothing older than the B525.

B315 is not recommended for online gaming on LTE

Hey guys/girls

Check out this uncapped rain LTE deal. It looks good, really really good.

I use B315 with no issues.

I think maybe it's poor if you have multiple people. This is more a bandwidth issue because the modem can only go as high as 80mbps which is slower than a B618 or B525. (Believe me, I've had this twice and consistently).
Also did you use the antennas on the B315 when gaming?
I have them on all the time.
