Type c display question

Tech noob here, My laptop type c doesn't support display I found out but wanted to know if I bought a Dell WD19 docking station (non thunderbolt) would I be able to run a display?

WD19 needs Displayport over USB C aka Alt mode similar to TB, which many machines dont have
You'd need the D6000 or similar which sacrifices some CPU using Displaylink technology
