Ok so this is a moerse longshot. Our fibre will be going live in the next few days (we have 10mb adsl which at best is basically useless) and me and my children want to become twitch stars! Needless to say, i have basically fokol of my own to start streaming. If you have anything laying around that can be used for streaming and want to loan it to me, it would be appreciated. Maybe someday i will more than double your trust in me with lots of Dolla's...

My son is an epic Rainbow six player, my youngest loves her sims and roblox and my eldest draws anime characters/designs clothing like a boss. I am basically just going to be a BF2042 star (someday i will get a key somewhere) Me building/troubleshooting pc's etc.

Any advice/assistance with hardware (not pc's/gpu's - mics/maybe extra monitor/capture device etc), game keys, best wishes, anything would be great!

Hi there!

Streaming in SA
Don't know how much you research or know, but this South African youtuber's advice really helped me and another friend with getting our Bitrate above 2000 kbps: How to stream to Twitch from South Africa.

Also, search your ISP name + RMTP, which will give you the protocol to customise in your OBS application that will help your ISP assist you to bypass all the other protocols and prioritise your stream to be better.

Lastly, when setting up your settings, dont worry about streaming 1080p from the start. start off with 720p, less stress on your devices and better experience for the viewers....

Audio settings advice
The following Streamer created a video of setting up your Mic to be the best it can be: ADVANCED Stream Mic Settings | Streamlabs OBS Microphone Filters

It covers:
1) Voice boost (to sound clearer, and to pick up your voice if you whisper)
2) Noise suppression (cancelling background noise, like mechanical keyboard)
3) Add voice bass to make your voice sound "warmer" and more relatable
4) Function for background music to automatically lower volume when you speak, and to immediately pick up to original volume if you are not. This helps to keep the vibe going while you play, but ensures people can hear you speak.

Lastly, dependent on your rigs, if you have an NVidia GC, chances are you will be better off with using the nvidia encoder rather than your CPU. IF you have a beast of a CPU, then you can also use that.

Just some nuggets I learned. Still a rookie myself but found the advice above helped me a lot.

Unfortunately I do not have any hardware to share, but hope this helps.

Good luck with your stream!

RooibosT has like 90% of the advice out of the way.

What in the way of a mic do you have at the moment? Sound quality most of the time trumps video quality in terms of making your stream watchable, so do bear that in mind. Headset mic is fine to start with and probably for 99% of cases. I personally use a Behringer XM8500 mic going into an audio interface and that's been fine for me on stream for ages.

Different types of microphones have different qualities, if you know your environment will be noisy, I would suggest using a dynamic mic like the Behringer I have down the line, because it's really good at picking up sound right in front of it and rejecting background audio.

If you need help with overlays/OBS configs, you're welcome to DM me for some tips there!

+1 for a dynamic mic. Recently switched fro. A condenser to a dynamic and it makes the world's difference.

The only issues with dynamic microphones is that the majority require the use of an XLR cable, and then you need an audio interface so the price stacks. You can get dynamic microphones that have a usb connection, like the Samson Q9U, but it's pricey as well.

I remember looking at YouTube way back and given the number of views it used to make more sense to give my then four-year-old toys to 'review'.
