Hi guys,

Some purchasing advise needed from you TV experts, also ones with some personal experience.

I'm looking between these two. The TV will mainly be used for Netflix, Prime video, YouTube, Crunchyroll and Twitch. The TV will be in a neutral lighting room and wall mounted with the couch being about 4m from the TV. Looking to get the best visuals in HDR/Vision.

Any other suggestions will also be appreciated. Can pick the Q70T up for R13 999.

Cheers!

Considered waiting for the U8G? It'll be out in a month or two and rtings.com rates it very highly

Does the US model = our model? They look different I think 🤔

I just bought the U8QF now at R10499 for this reason. HDTVTest reviews the "UK version" of the U8G as worse than the U8QF and on top of that, the new model will be much more expensive.

How is it? What did you have previously?

We just have a different stand here correct, because Vincent's one has a different stand?

I didn't have a TV previously, so I am very happy with it. I will say that the brightness of the TV is as impressive as the reviews make it out to be. HDR content is very pleasant to watch. I will say, there are some moments with noticeable motion stuttering and the "jBl sOuNdSysTeM" is a complete waste.

I assumed that ours is the same yes, and I took a risk that we will receive the same as the UK version for the new lineup. The U8G looks like the bees knees but I can't see it coming to SA. There has also been no news of the new lineup and when they land in Africa.

Huh? Where is it out locally? Hisense SA said August, so I'm guessing you're thinking of something else.
We do not get the U8G and U9G you are correct. The best we get is u8qf which does not equal U8G/U9G.

Q70T or u8qf, I think the hisense and use the rest of the money to fund a soundbar @Dean Steinhobel

After having a Hisense and also having to deal with the terrible aftersales I would go Samsung. But more than that, Hisense just doesn't come close to the image processing of LG or Samsung

Once more, according to Hisense SA, we will be getting the U8G in August. What's so difficult to understand?

I currently have a U7QF and not too impressed. Fiddled a lot with the settings and can't get anything that suits my eye.

Also, playing HDR/Vision content on Netflix/Prime is awfull. It's almost like a grainy stream, 100mb fibre so I don't think that's the issue. Weirdly 4K content pops in YouTube. So don't know what's up with that.

I've being doing a lot of research and people don't really rate the Q70T. Don't know if that is because of its price point.

Also another sad thing about our imports. UK compares the U8QF to to the Sony XH90/X900H(Looks like like the best 4K QLED TV at the moment, but for R20K I can go OLED) priced similar there. Here there is a R10K gap between the two

So are you saying you are favouring the hisense?

Wel not if the U8QF is going to have the same issue with HDR/Vision in Netflix. As that is what we mainly watch.

Starting to think my U7QF might have panel issues, not sure yet. Going to get it checked out today. I have till tomorrow to return it.

Can then either go R1K more for the U8QF or 4.5K more for the Q70T :) and that just sounds horrible

I have 50 LG. 5 m viewable distance.

Mount it at correct high, else it is a pain to watch for long. (look for reflection etc.

I have a cheaper Hisense. Not worth buying a more expensive one imho. Local support is bad. Had a issue getting a spare remote. Luckily, it work with my harmony remote.

Samsung and LG have great software. The Samsung vpn app (on some models) works great aswell. Samsung Wifi is rock stable.

I also had a lot of issues with a Hisense Tv
Replaced the main pc board
Then Replaced the Power pc board
Bought it from Takealot and could not even send it back , they only send Hisense out to come and repair it
I would stay away from Hisense , they are cheaper for a reason

Not going to lie, OLED is amazing. Won't suggest it for just watching TV. The stress of burn-in is getting to me.

The smart interface of the LG OLED is so great I don't even use my MiBox anymore. Hisense "Smart" is utter trash.

In all fairness, I had a Samsung ES8000 had to replace the board, had a 65C8 which was returned and refunded due to issues, had a 55C9 panel replaced due to dead pixels. had a LG something which also needed board replaced.

Seems I have bad luck with TVs :) but I must say the service received was swift and painless.

Someone hasn't had their coffee yet...

Also their comment says September, and I wouldn't take a FB comment as law. Why would the US versions suddenly be coming to SA if there is an equivalent model released in the UK?

Instead of speculating, why not show proof to the contrary?

And are you seriously going to be pedantic between August and September? Holy shit - gonna need more than coffee to deal with this shit.

just bought myself a 2nd hand OLED TV yesterday for a steal of a price. 3 words - Nothing else compares

4k 120HZ G Sync FTW!!!

Dont bother with Hisense if you want to spend a good amount on a nice looking TV. Samsung Qled is quite good too but OLED is on a whole other level. Id say save and up go for OLED

Yeah my main goal of this TV is for our lounge, TV will probably be playing 12 hours a day. So I won't be able to go OLED. :p although I know the quality surpasses any other

Q70t ftw, 120hz 4k over hdmi 2.1!!
But is it worth it if don't game on a console? Like mentioned will only be used for movies and series. Maybe the odd steam link games. But that's not over HDMI 2.1 so yeah.

I'm purely looking for best bang for buck vissuals.

Have a Google TV so smart interface doesn't really bother me.

Also looking at the LG Nano86, don't know if anyone can comment on that. Might go this route as I've had a LG monitor that served me for about 10 years

The only reason you would buy an LG is if your seating arrangement is wide. They use IPS panels where the contrast is not the best and the brightness is subpar vs Q70. It's great if viewing from off axis but if you mainly sit in front of the TV I would suggest Samsung.

If you can wait a bit that would be best I think, because we still need to receive LGs QNED TVs and whatever else is in the pipeline.

Better question would be is your budget R14k max? Then I do not see why you would need to wait, as the new things always cost more.

Yeah sadly budget is max R14K. So waiting won't really be an option.

The new Nano LED ranges looks amazing. But they already above R20K so don't see how LG will be much cheaper.

Looks like Samsung is the winner here, although multiple reviews say that the U8QF has one of the best HDR viewing experiences due to it's peak brightness (4 Year warranty is also a dub).

But I've learned the lesson. Don't buy cheap :)
