Hi Carbs! Story time:

We came back from holiday (just the four days over Christmas weekend) to find that the lightning had its way with most of the electronics in our house. Outsurance have normally been great but a few factors like stock shortages on GPU's and the first bad claims broker I've had meant that I only got my replacement PC today.

I had an I7-3970X and a Gigabyte waterforce 1080 (the one with the AIO loop) and I was really worried that they would just say that the machine was old and they would replace it with something of a similar value. Needless to say I had nothing to worry about because they came though in a big way:

I Got:

An Intel I7-8700K.
A Z370 Aorus Gaming 7.
Two 16 GB Vengeance LPX DDR4 2400Mhz ram modules.
A Corsair HX1000i PSU
A Coolermaster Mastercase 6 Pro
And here is the kicker: A Gigabyte Aorus 1080 TI Xtreme edition water blocked GPU (thats all that was on stock as the mining community keeps buying cards)

So I am "forced" into building a custom water cooling loop! This is something that I have always wanted to do but never had the machine to really warrant the cost and effort. I am giddy AF and just waiting for the last few water cooling components to arrive.

At first I thought I would just run a flexible tube loop for the GPU and run the CPU on an AIO that I had floating around but that changed into a full hardline CPU and GPU loop!

I'll update this thread with as soon as I start building! If anyone has any advice it'll be greatly appreciated. I have been watching youtube videos to get up to speed with the pipe bending etc.

As far as water cooling components go I already got:

An XSPC 280mm RAD from Killer_Inc
Another XSPC 280mm RAD, Swiftec D5 Vario Pump and a Barrow color 120MM65MM LFPG65-V3 from andrem (thanks for all the help on Sunday)

Now I await fittings, pipes, pipe bending tool, pump top (for hardline fittings) and fans from Rectron and Titan-Ice. Me and Dragon will start building the machine tomorrow and I CANNOT FLIPPING WAIT!!!!

damn...

think I need to go put my PC outside for some lightning action so that I can also get a beast of a replacement :(

That’s one way of doing it... Hahahaha, let me know how that strategy works!!

The weird thing is that the machine was on a UPS and the UPS is fine. All the routers and switches on my network also went so I am thinking it hit the network?

If you were to ever get bored and not in need of this beast send it my WAY thanks

Hahaha so it starts, guys let me first enjoy it for a little bit!

lost a router and a switch like that

everything on UPS and they are fine, but the hardware got fried

Sorry ppl, but I have 1st dibs on the Machine, the gpu actually ;) haha. Ps, I am glad I could help you with the rad. Hope you find it to your liking... haha

The pump/res scenario makes my teeth itch. Otherwise enjoy the greatness that will be your final creation.

Hey Munk why do you say that? Something I can do better?

I'm not saying you could do it better, I don't have the hardware to comment. :tongue-new:
If money is not an object then you can definitely find a pump cover/top combo that could attach to your res but again, that's for you to figure out.

Just seeing the res almost "hanging" there, a completely personal gripe.
Don't take my advice, my advice is why I don't own a full WC kit, I would be bankrupt. :D

Bwhahahaha, money is unfortunately always an issue. I bought the res on carbs when I was still planning on doing flexible tube. I am waiting for hairline pipes to arrive so a res/pump combo might still happen!

This thread is why you have insurance and make sure that the replacement value of your machine is updated often. Insurance didnt like that my machine was 1/3rd the total value of my household contents.

Now I’m updating the cover so that there won’t be a problem going forward. I’ll get a 1080ti in the future so that if my machine gets stolen or damaged, I get the modern equivalent.

Exactly! My machine was specified and this is exactly why I have insurance. It also has to be said that Outsurance have been phenomenal. Not exactly their fault for GPU’s being sold out

So the machine is running! It took two tries. First only getting 1 meter of 16mm petg and trying the rest of the loop with soft tube I had lying around. This just leaked so today I drove to Titan-Ice in Pretoria and got white 14mm petg (also their last stock) and fittings to mount everything.

The result is a bit of a mix match and I would have preferred everything to be he same but if I waited for rectron I’d only have a system next week Friday...

I ran the pump for about 5 hours today and the results were a perfectly dry system!! :)

I’ll play few games on it tonight to see how it performs but in initial synthetic tests I am getting very low temperatures.

That is more than understandable I would think xD I too would want to get ALL the FPS in my face as fast I physically possible xD

Well played on adjusting that reservoir placement, sorry for turn my OCD into your OCD :).
But I beg of ye, good sire, run both GPU cables through one grommet.

Bwhahaha! This we can blame squarely on Dragon

Hahahahaha I am to blame. My OCD couldn’t handle the cables running at a skew angle instead of 90deg to the gpu. The grommets just don’t align properly

I see boredom of this beast approaching soonish I shall wait like stephen kings I.T the clown
