What do I need to transfer ownership of a car?

As far as I know, roadworthy test will have to be done, where do I do this? The traffic department? What documents do I need?
After that, what are the next steps and documents required?

ID/Drivers and proof of address, Yellow form for change of ownership along with previous owner/dealers ID and details, then blue form for Registration on your name (registration papers). You will only get your new license disk if the car has passed roadworthy or still has a valid roadworthy certificate (2 months). Better to hand in the passed roadworthy document when registering. You can do the test at an independent company or at the traffic dept.

Also interested... Does the previous owner have to be physically present when doing the change of ownership? Or would one have to write a proxy and have it signed off etc.

You need :

1. Original RC1 Document ( Green papers with VIN, Engine, Model, Year of the Car on it And the Title holder Being in a business or a persons name along with their corresponding ID number or Business Reg Number on that paper.
2. ID COPY or ID of the persons who's name its in corresponding/Matching with the RC1 document (if the car is in a company/banks name , you would need a proxy letter, proxy ID, and a copy of the business reg certificate for that company - ( if in the banks name, a letter saying the car is settle and can be sold)
3. 2 X NCO forms ( Change of ownership form - they yellow or blue , who knows. ) Ones go to the buyer , ones goes to the seller, so each can register or de-registered the vehicle off their name

FYI: Some traffic departments want a letter from the previous owner, some traffic departments want proof of residence , some traffic departments want everything filled in only black pen.
