Good day carbies. So I have a ptmp setup with a ubnt ap, 1x ubnt nano and 2x tp-link cpe220-cpe210. Is there a way to migrate the tplink units to ubnt software. I have seen it on older units. Could someone please point me in the right direction.

Would love to see this "older units migration" since afaik nothing remotely like this is possible

I know only of the openwrt firmware replacement of Unifi APs and a hacked version of Unifi controller that can display other devices

Think this is how it was done on older units just haven't done it myself before (see link)
Basically ubnt and tp-link use almost exactly the same chips etc. You can also change ubnt to cambium.

Ah yes airOS is(was) a bit more hackable but it's very hardware specific, this guy used a tailor made firmware, might have better luck with OpenWRT
airOS isn't manageable with Unifi controller though so the benefits aren't huge (UNMS thats not fully public notwithstanding)

I'm not really worried about unms all I want is to be able to put airmax on as I have alot of noise as the area is packed with other frequencies

Not following what difference the firmware's going to make there

Tplink and ubnt use the same technique but it's different names. (Ubnt = airmax)(tplink=max stream) you can't connect a tplink to a ubnt with airmax on so you get weaker thruput if you change the firmware the tplink will use airmax

Wouldnt it just be better to migrate to one brand and save the hassle and risk of bricking items with hacked firmwares with no warranty / support ??

Well they don't have much warranty left anyway, it's not possible to get units now and it costs moola lol. Oh I'm bored too and why waste unit if it can work. I have an extra one here so I'll first test it before hacking up the rest lol

I'd rather go OpenWRT on both then if it's a protocol issue

I'm not sure that's what I want, openwrt will do the same job as the current software if not mistaken, only reason I want to have airmax on is for network quality as 2ghz is noisy and airmax might clean it up

Out of interest, how would AirMax clean it up? If you have noise you need to move around the noise OR turn off all the other devices. If noise is an issue, rather go 5Ghz AC or Wifi6 AX (wouldnt go there just yet if it was me).

If thats not an option then leave wifi channel to auto (I wouldn't do this personally) & in theory it will scan for and use the least congested frequencies.

As long as 2.4Ghz is on either ch1,6 or 11 you're getting towards less congestion. These vids may be of use to you:
