Toyota GR rally edition

I know an we are all taking the 'golden shower' in YAR ARSE thread.

Grow weary of people bragging about cars. So infantile. Likely just me though.

R U a SAFFER. Next you will tell us you dont like braai's and it is too commercial.

Let me post my barbarque setup. I have a folding table grate to hold the stuuf during braai and naai ing

Couldn't give a fark about the guy or the car. Like I said, was taking the piss. Mostly prompted by how much the guy glorifies the car and the purchase. As if we all should too.
He bought what he wanted. Good for him. Justifying his purchase to the world and to himself by getting all emotional over a car, any car, seems like such a pointless thing to do. Grow weary of people bragging about cars. So infantile. Likely just me though.

How else are people meant to know about my Rally homoligation pedigree that I paid good money for?

All hot hatches are a ripoff. There is no value for money, and there is also not much that sets them apart. No real emotional connection.

I could make a very long list of cars I would rather buy for 600K+. Definately not a hot hatch.
lol

no emotional connection, someone has never driven any renault rs

It's just a car man. And just a Yaris to boot. Way too much emotion invested in just a car, with pointless 'features' that certainly doesn't aid you on your drive to and fro work. One would swear you're about to hit the rally circuits with that laundry list of pointless features on a...little Yaris :D

Chill out and enjoy the ride.
I saw more than two sentences and skipped reading it so props to you.

Have you driven it?

Riding shotgun while on a flatbed doesnt count

Yes, plenty, i have had 6 over the past 8 years
Everyone of them have been excellent

And they don't breakdown anymore or less then any other performance car i have owned (which is 0 times, cause i do maintenance ;) )

I paid like just over 100k for it. Not one problem and I pounded it daily and then sold it

I paid like just over 100k for it.
Only??

Wow...

If only Renault badged it with Rally Homoligation - they would have been rich.

Anything can become a collectors item. You just need to hold onto it for long enough. It's such an overused term...

Agreed it is over used but this is ZA with a lot of Toyota fanboys. See what Runx TRD's go for now and that thing was no where near as exclusive and limited as this Yaris will be.

10 years down the line Cressida's will be 2bar and this close behind :ROFLMAO:

This post can be summarised to:
"Tell me you own a GR Yaris without telling me you own a GR yaris"

Impressive stuff.

The cheap cologne of attempted itellectual post is strong on this one - bear with me a few min while a take a few steps away to inhale the untainted air.

OK now that I am in the zone of fresh air.

You dont need to justify your purchase to me - or write down the things you told yourself to convince yourself to get the car. Power to you - you could afford it - good for you.

It does have optional extras - like extended warranties, extended service plans, you only get those all included "extras" if you are paying R720K for one - but again - excluding optional extras like extended warranties. Otherwise things like the HUD and high speed cruise control are optional on the non rally version.

Being sold out is not an exclusive sign up list - just because they sold out doesnt make it a sign up list - I can request a brand new Audi RS3 tomorrow from the factory and they will also put my name on a list while its being built and imported?

Also - nowhere did I say that its not well suited for daily driving??? I just said I would want the interior to be better because it would be my daily driver? Because defend it all you want - your rally homoligation did a shit job of the interior.

Thanks for talking for me on the subject - but Im not confused about the purpose of the Supra or the GR86 or the Yaris GR. I didnt infact compare the Polo GTI to the Yaris GR - I just said that I would rather have a Polo gti - and R150K spare change - and infact I actually acknowledged that some of the alternatives werent quite as fast as the Yaris GR - infact the wording I used I believe was:

"I can get a car that may not be quite balls to teh wall performance"

I think you have missed the whole point of my post - I mentioned the polo GTI, I mentioned the Golf GTI / Golf R, I mentioned the Supra and I mentioned the GR86 all as examples of cars similar in price to the Yaris GR - that would get you similar fun..... for same or less money (with the exception of the supra - I only mentioned the supra as you are only R180k off of buying a supra vs the top end Yaris GR.)

Im well aware that a GTI is common as pig shit, and its not as fast ..... but I can sleep comoftably knowing that I have R150K more in the bank that I didnt need to spend to get a similar dopamine hit.

You see @Qui_Illustrati

-----------------------------

You know what else was awarded car of the year? The polo 6r.... in 2010....
Winning the award is such a moot point.

Infact here are all of them in SA:
Budget Category: Toyota Starlet
Compact Category: Hyundai Venue
Compact Family Category: Peugeot 2008 SUV
Family Category: Audi A4
Premium Category: BMW 4 Series
Adventure Category: Toyota Land Cruiser Prado
Double Cab Category: Toyota Hilux Double Cab
Performance Category: Porsche 911 Turbo S
New Energy Category: Porsche Taycan
Motor Enthusiast's Choice: Mercedes-Benz E-Class
Jurors Excellence Award: Peugeot 2008 SUV

Now if you are talking about car of the year in Europe:

It was actually the plain old bog standard Yaris - but I am glad you group the bog standard Yaris and the Yaris GR together - because this just further justifies that when you render it down - it is R700k for a sporty Yaris.

Im glad you rally homoligation developed car is doing well carrying around your gym bag - I truly am - but thats my whole problem with the vehicle... R700K ... for a yaris ... that is bat shit fast.... that you will never use for rallying... that has the interior of a bog standard yaris is too much - what I am saying is if they were going to release it as it stands now - 700K for what you get on the inside is too much.

But its cool I get why you bought the car - and in fact Im not angry you did, and Im not angry that people have bought it - infact Im not even angry - I just dont agree with the price.... but whatever you told yoruself to justify your purchase... good for you.
Your key point, as I see it, is that the interior of the GR isn't on par with what the car itself costs and that other similarly priced cars have better interiors. And you're right. But, if 'interior' > 'rest of the car' is your definitive standard, the GR ain't for you. It also ain't for you if you reckon that a Slopo GTI will give you a similar kick to a GR and you'd have an extra R150k in the bank as a result. I'm not saying that's a wrong way of thinking. In fact, it's entirely your prerogative. I just don't understand that comparison (because that's what it is) but I'm also too stupid to understand quantum mechanics.

In fact, anyone who says, "Ja, but I could get a slightly less fun car for a whole lot less money" certainly isn't the type of person Toyota believes will buy the GR. With all 25,000 of the initial batch of GRs sold globally and the long queue to get a car from the next batch, it seems Toyota found at least some people who think it's worth it, don't you agree? I'm sure you'd agree that while price is a factor in comparing cars, it's not the deciding factor for everyone. Comparing a GR Yaris and a GR Supra because one is only a bit cheaper than the other is like comparing houses in Sandton to similarly priced houses in Putsonderwater. They are different in every conceivable way. Besides, if you buy a Supra, you're actually buying a BMW Z4...

Similarly to you, it is beyond me how anyone could spend anything over R400k for the unremarkable Slopo GTI, decent interior or otherwise. I can, however, understand spending that amount of money on a Mk7.5 Golf GTI. I had one before the Yaris. The Golf, while truly excellent (far superior to the Mk8, I reckon), isn't as engaging or fun as the GR. The GR's interior could be better but it is no less comfortable, decent to look at, functional or durable than what you'd find in a Slopo GTI, if that is your benchmark. If having a full cluster screen instead of what you consider to be "basically CRT infotainment" is important, get the Slopo GTI because you weren't part of Toyota's target market for the GR to begin with.

A Mk8 Golf GTI specced with all the kit found on the GR Rally will, as a fact, cost you more than the GR Rally and you then have to deal with having to drive a plain Mk8 GTI, a car that's been roundly panned by the critics.

On my awards point, read of this article: GR Yaris awards: the growing trophy haul - Toyota UK Magazine

Even if you disagree on all of the above, let's get one thing straight: I needn't and won't justify my purchase to anyone. I'm happy with what I bought. So, thank you for the well wishes.

Lastly, I implore you to actually drive the GR before slating it.

Would this apply equally to someone getting all emotional over, say, a house? Or maybe a gaming rig?

Different strokes, as you surely know. I might not understand why others are emotionally invested in their collection of dead butterflies but my lack of understanding doesn't render their investment pointless.

I haven't wanted - or even needed - to justify my purchase to anyone. If someone says something that I think is wrong (which I thought Deago did), I'll try to convince them otherwise. That's a debate, no?

Yes - of course it would. What they all have in common is they are all inanimate objects.
I can see your point though. I mean I've seen those shows where folks tonguefuck their car grills and stick their dicks in their cars fartbox.
I get it. People are messed up and get attached to the weirdest stuff.

Still though, getting all emotional over an object that cannot return that emotion is pointless, to me anyway.
But, like you say, different strokes for different folks. I get that.
You be you. Like I said, not judging - but the world needs to take the piss out of folks that just make dumb decisions though. Right? I mean, laughter is the best medicine and we sure do need the best medicine for the way the world is right now.

Have fun with the car. Enjoy it. But for fucks sake, it's a rally car apparently- take it on a goddamn rally circuit at least once in its life.

what a weirdo.

Ja, no, well, not fine - that's properly mental.

Agreed on the remainder, though! I reckon some objects have souls - like a house that's seen generations of a family or a car, foibles and all, that begs you to give it the beans at every possible chance.

I'm planning on getting some rally-style mudflaps for when I take it through the plantations up near Hazyview...

Somebody is likely going to ask how come the rally car doesn't come with rally-style mudflaps. Not me, I'm not asking that. Just saying someone might.
The plantation course sounds like fun. Hope you stick a GoPro on it and post the vid.

Somebody is also likely going to ask what is a rally-style mudflap. Not me, I'm not asking that.

Somebody is also hoping it is not some sort of sex thing.

That post is a little suspect.

You put out a very negative portrait of a car person (That most likely is <1% of the car people and mostly a person that has a mental health problems irrespective of being a car person)

Subtly linking him to them (He then was had to agree that that was weird as if defending himself)

Then you stated getting emotional attached to an inanimate object is bad (once again subjective)

Great if you feel that way. But you allowed to have your opinion . But getting attached is an emotion thing. What you get attached to is in many case irrelevant . The pope just said people should have kids instead of pets (ridiculous - but he is the pope and it is the same sentiment)

Then you top it off wtih a point 3 dig and disclaimer

Dude

Sorry updated multiple time due to an error with connectivity

I'm not sure what you're getting at but you're right. My bad.

Sorry my previous post did not appear all at once. And was therefore disjoined

How ever feel free to dig it a part. I put it out there
