To anyone in the market for a high-tier GPU

Still boggles the mind how much power these cards can draw these days! Diminishing returns comes to mind. Are you running at 4k? Will probably need to wait for RDNA5 for an efficient 4K card.

Zen4 launches next year too, but hey, still bought a 5900X cause it was a good deal, (and I have no GPU or Mobo to use with it 🤣)

EDIT: Can't type and quote properly on Mobile.
Nah I'm on 1440 240Hz. Tbh the 3080 Ti and 3090 do okay with DLSS. The 3080 suffers because it doesn't have enough VRAM.

Wow, even at 240Hz I wasn't expecting it to draw that much.

I'm glad the 3080 Ti has more RAM than the 3080, but still feel like they skimped considering future RAM requirements for 4K gaming.

@affxct Just saw that someone sold their Palit 3080 Ti  Getting the HOF?

I’m actually downgrading a bit to the 3080 Gaming Z. I managed to acquire one for a reasonable price and it’s my favourite design. The price jump to the HOF just isn’t really worth it to me because realistically, you won’t be able to get HOF level 3DMark scores without a 16-core or a heavily OC’d 10900K.

Suggested PSU for this card.....?

Currently have a antec atom 650watt gold rated...

850W. If you’re gonna push 450W regularly, then genuinely don’t even attempt less than 850 - not worth the risk. 1000W might be better though.
Guess i should stick to a 3060ti or a 3070 then :)

I mean they’re still awesome cards. It sucks how the market has shifted like this, and it almost feels like the high prices makes people just want to go for the crazy stupid fast cards for the sake of it.

Visions look great but the VRAM cooling on the Gigabyte cards is atrocious.

which 3060ti or 3070 or even 3070ti would you recommend? can also pm if you wanna
Just get a Gainward/Palit if you want value. R17.8k on the Performance PCs Visions is a good deal though. Do bear in mind, the 3070 Ti does around 330-350W haha.

Im running a 5600x soo... power should be fine right?

lol ok so suggestions?
Haha nah the 3070 Ti Vision has a 320W BIOS limit I believe, and your CPU with the rest of the system will likely not do much over 80W. With that config I think a 650W could be just enough, I’d personally do 750 to be safe haha.

Would have been cool to see what you could do with the HOF, even a 12-core should be good enough for air-cooled attempts. The guys on the top go to some insane lengths (GPU LN2 but that is its own "pot" of worms).

Ahh I checked the HOF and there aren’t many - if any - 3080 Ti’s at all. I’d have had my cold house air in the winter and two massive fans. The card maybe could’ve boosted to 2200MHz. I’m not entirely sure how stable they are at that frequency so chances are it wouldn’t have even beat my 3080 Ti GameRock’s Fire Strike Performance/Extreme/Ultra scores.

If I hadn’t spent a bunch of money on a home gym setup and if I hadn’t purchased some other things, I may have been able to grab the 6900 XT Strix LC TOP on Evetech for R35K - that’s the kind of card that could actually make the HOF in Fire Strike and Time Spy. Judging by how underwhelming LN2 is for the 6900 XT due to the memory clock issue, it may have been more ideal to use the card with that AIO and maybe try to bench it at around 35c or so (my 3090 benched at <50c).

@ReeceDBN031 Get the Vision 3070 Ti, be happy. The 3070 Ti is a damn fast card, and it’s unlikely 400W of system load will kill your PSU (provided it’s a good one).

I’m not going to lie, aside from the fact that it was +R6K with no possibility to get onto the 3DMark HoF, Wootware’s atrocious delivery periods as of late was a major factor in why I didn’t grab one. Honestly not sure what’s happening over there.

I remember in 2019 I needed a screen the very next day and I ordered it like 30 minutes before they closed. It actually got collected by Dawn Wing and delivered the next day in the early afternoon.

I really dont think bad delivery times is the norm with them.

I placed my order sunday night. By monday afternoon it was with FedEx. By wed midday it was in my hands in jhb.

This has consistently been my experience with them - pretty damn good.

Why i will ALWAYS look at wootware first is because when i bought a new ryzen mobo from them they had the common sense to ask if they could open the box and upload new firmware for me so that i dont need to issue with it. At that point i didnt know it was an issue with the new cpu's.

Wootware is nr1 on my list

Don't get me wrong haha. They have great service, but their delivery times to me aren't acceptable. OVN should be standard IMO. It's been OVN since the beginning of 2016. Why all of a sudden do they have 2-3 day deliveries now? My friend Morgan ordered a PSU on Thursday early afternoon and received it today. Another friend of mine ordered his PC parts last week Friday I believe, he received them a week later.

Yeah look, a week is not ok, 2 to 3 days max is fine to me personally

Ah fair enough. I mean it's still an awesome card at an awesome price and totally worth the wait if for some people. For me personally the idea of my card being ordered on Tuesday and potentially arriving on Friday scared me because I knew I would run into issues with uni work and just generally not know what to do with myself after returning home in the evenings. I'm basically ALWAYS on my PC if I'm not at the gym or on campus.

That was a small concern that ended up tipping the scales in favor of the TRIO for me, but the TRIO is my absolute favorite design of the current generation of cards and the pricing was really decent (basically launch price). Had it not been for these R20K TRIO's, I wouldn't have thought twice about the HOF. The only other card that enticed me was the STRIX 3060 Ti for R14K, but there were none left.

By the way: your build looks impeccable. Like just unreal; so well built and parted out. I will say though, I'm not sure if I'd be comfortable running a card as powerful as the HOF off of PSU extensions. It's really nice of them that they provide them, but I've seen some horror stories online regarding the Corsair, CM, and Phanteks ones.

Thanks

Yeah extensions arent ideal, but been using some on the previous gpu as well. For the cable routing and size of that case, the stock psu cables didnt even reach. Coolermaster 1000 psu

Oh wow, haha I guess it's kinda a convenient necessity XD.
