Time for a TV device

Thanks guys!
@AfricanTech , I think we would want the 4k one though, to stream our laptops at full res. But those ATV3's are going for crazy good prices though...

@SauRoN, legit had to do a double take to your signature. For a moment I was wondering if the dude dropped the act and started to communicate properly...

Anyway, I really doubt our TV will support it. I bought one of the cheaper HDR TVs that were available in store. Guess I should just fork out for the latest apple TV and get it over with.

Thanks again to every for their recommendations and thoughts.

The 'smart' part of SmartTV's can't hold a candle to any halfway decent media box.

I've recently come to understand this!

A small media PC would also be a good solution, but the small Apple TV just seems incredibly convenient.
I have a secondary android TV box you can borrow if you want to take it for a test drive.

MyGica 295 Pro.

LOL, yes let me go fix the signature.

If it's a Samsung or LG you have maybe half a hope in hell, but anything else it's unlikely.

The Apple TV is a great device. I have a non-4K one and will likely buy a 4K one when it hits an eBucks sale or some such even though I have a top of the range LG OLED.

Maybe the older smart TVs weren't up to scratch but my TV can do everything my LIT box can.
Our TV can do most of it, but sometimes is does take quite a bit longer than I would expect a PC to do it...

Like what? Launch Netflix etc?

Not trolling, I really want to know :)
Yebo. Launching apps and using other 3rd party apps like a browser or Deezer. Just generally slower than what I would like.

But I did not expect much from my TV specifically. Was around R13000 in August of 2018. Got the cheapest HDR 55" they had on offer.

If you into diy you can = Raspberry pi + Android + Netflix app.

Although being a cheapskate I got a orange pi. It ran hot tho so I added a 12v fan and burned the voltage regulator.

There's also a Rock64, similar in price to the raspberry pi, but with more ram.

Problem I have experienced with launching apps on the TV is the sound output. Can't really get the full benefit of surround sound through the optical out of the TV to AV receiver. Mi Box is still the best thing TBH.

Which TV brand?

Honestly, there's nothing better on the market than the Nvidia Shield. Order from amazon and it'll cost R4k at your door. It has the best experience i've ever had. I had one, then thought i'd want to try the xbox one s as a replacement, now i'm back to the shield and it just beats the pants off the xbox. The picture and sound quality is better, menu's are faster, loading up netflix content is faster, I can stream any of my games from my desktop to the tv through it and not only the things on steam, has a huge selection of apps from the android store and is also the only android box to support amazon prime (if that's your thing). I can connect my xbox one bluetooth controllers to it to play my games (or ps4 controllers). Try doing all that with an apple tv :p

Hmmm... So I can make full use of my Desktop in another room at the TV? Might open up some other possibilities as well.

Any MyGica ATV495Max owners got a work around for Netflix? (approval is still pending)

The one on the website isn't working anymore

There's probably an app that will allow remote desktop use, but I haven't bothered trying. It's more through the nvidia games section that it can spin up any of the games on your pc and play it there. Plus you can use nvidia game stream if your internet connection is good enough to play games off their servers. If it sees you own the game on your pc then you can play it through their servers without a sub, although the experience is much better playing it from your desktop.

You can also plug in a wireless kb + mouse if you want to do some typing and stuff.

It can also act as a plex server and you can have your media on an external hdd. So many possibilities

Did the browser not want to play the file format, or did the vid not have enough bandwidth via wifi?

The Google Amazon feud is over, Prime Video will start to appear on most Android TV players and they already enabled Chromecast on the mobile app.

If you're doing all sorts of extra things the Shield is the best but the Apple TV 4K is the best media player, the iPad and the Apple TV is the only two Apple products I fully endorse.

Steam Link is available on the Apple TV and it supports PS4 and Xbox One controllers on tvOS 13.

There's nothing that says the apple tv is the better media player. It's just better if you're focussed on apple devices. I have an iphone and I haven't missed airplay at all. I still push my youtube or fb vids through to the shield if i want to show something. I don't use apple music, I use spotify, and the apple tv doesn't even support spotify while the shield does.

@ScottulusMaximus juging by this thread you need to bring in a few more Shields

People are welcome to order direct, will be cheaper than the BoB price due to their fees.
