Why does everyone wear sneakers daily? Am I the only that has to wear formal shoes to work?
And on weekends I rock the stokies or plakkies

I used to wear formal clothes to work until we had no office. Our office was moved to Johannesburg so I thought, “what’s the point?”

I've worn the same safety boots at the office for like the past four years, they just don't want to die.

But that's because I ride a bike in to work so change shoes when I get here.

If I need to replace them it will be a pair of Furoshikis for the office as well.

Well, I used to drive past a school, and also wished that all the butt ugly mommies could be prevented from doing the morning dropoff run (when I drive past) at the school.

but same to people stop buying the butt ugly shoes in the thread ... that ain't gonna happen

Probably. All the young trendy coders at work have a pair of trending ugly sneakers.
I wear a pair of these:
I have a few similar pairs. A grey Superga, a grey Vans and a black DCs. All 3 pairs in this style. My daily shoes for the past 7 years or so.

Then a few leather and suade shoes for the meety meets and tekkies for the runny runs.

Or my main preference, socks behind the computer. :3

at one stage, new position at the mine - in the plant itself (the one before was at the admin building at the mine, where I used to wear collar and tie). after two/three days one of the superintendents came to me and said " ... .I don't know if you noticed, but we don't dress like that here... "

Yeah, there’s something weird about out-dressing your co-workers.

One person I worked with wore a suit for the first 6 months. Weird. Not even the execs wear suits unless they have big meetings with other execs.

Best work outfit: collared shirt, nice fitting dark jeans, brown shoes, blue blazer (NOT a suit jacket, a blazer and a suit jacket are totally different).

It can do meetings without coming across as pretentious or underdressed but can also do after work functions too.

Are you an auditor? They suck the fun out of everything and wear only grey or black and white.

Booooring! Add some ugly sneakers to that outfit and you’ve got an auditor that can party!!!

Seriously though. Black and White Vans, White and Black Superstars and Black Dr Martens are my daily drivers. Comfy, pretty hard wearing and look good with almost any colours.

You sound like a world of fun to work with .

The programmers at my work all dress in either pink (not a girl), hip-hop, badly or like a surfer babe.

Formal shoes 5 days a week hey. I seriously need to look into getting inlays for them though.

When attempting to jog I got bad blisters on my instep. Got proper shoes to cater for my pronating. Going for a parkrun is lovely and pain-free now and seeing as I'm in those shoes daily for the gym, I started walking "like I'm supposed to". This has led to my work shoes causing more and more discomfort as time goes on, where it wasn't as noticeable in the past.
