This ugly sneaker trend has to die

I wear these everywhere, even to bed, some say I was born with them

Those are the Nike Structure Triax that are long distance running shoes and therefor, actually functional.

Really good shoes. Probably the best running shoes that Nike make.

You either like them or don't... the funky colours are a bit dodge sometimes... however with the releases of old designs if you were a poor kid growing up there is some element of nostalgia to it
I run with Asics but I have a few other shoes... Jordan 12 retros in olive green, air force ones, Kyrie V Friends edition (also one of my favourite shows), Lebron XVI which is probably the most comfortable shoe I own or have ever owned bar none... various driving specific pumas... I find all of these to have alot more attention to detail (no glue over runs, colours marring, print out of place etc) that cheap Nikes have. Also that particular athletes kids names, special dates etc moulded into them.

I am going to have a custom set of LeBron soldiers made soon with my kids initials on them.

It's just another hobby and one where you can even make a bit if money if you're really into it

Some people think some of you are silly for spending money to get to that last 5fps when your machine is bashing out a perfectly "functional" 200fps or endless benchmarking and un-bottlenecking to match golden samples sent to reviewers

Some think I am wasting money similarly on car care for some invisible scratch only I know is there when a car wash is R75 and is perfectly fine for them. Same for performance parts (the usual moronic comments about where you use the power etc).

Shoes are the same. Functional for some, a hobby for others, quite a few proper enthusiasts and meaningless to most.

Few pics of what I've mentioned above

I think we’re blurring the line of fashion/trendy and functional.

I can wear a pair of steel toed boots to protect my toes at a building site and that’s fine.

I can wear a pair of day-Glow pink running shoes to do a marathon, that’s fine.

I can’t spend R4500 on a pair of comfy shoes that are trendy yet clearly ugly for the sake of being trendy.

If I wanted something to exist for the sake of its existence, I’d buy art.

Ugly trendy shoes right now are like art, but not like a Jackson Pollock where there’s some method in his vomit-esc madness.

Jordans are not pretty shoes but they are a statement of who you identify with (often the hip-hop scene) and are very comfy, if a little expensive. I can handle that.

I can’t handle a pair of $950 shoes that exist only for the here and now.

The sneaker market is huge - 2nd hand market even more ridiculous too. Crazy designs, crazy colours...
There are probably a bunch of sneaker heads that would cringe at guys spending crazy money on PC stuff. Each to their own.

I can appreciate that, everyone's got a thing that they can convince themselves to spend too much money on. Whatever tickles your pickle

Speaking of such things does anyone know if here is a sneaker trading/reseller group in SA to get more out-of-reach sneakers?

Also let me just add that you cannot legitimately live life as if everything should be 100% functional and fit for purpose because I can promise you that everyone has things that they dont use 100% effectively. With the exception of art. And if I wanna say my shoes are art then who is going to convince me differently

These are the type of shoes I wear most at work, super light and comfortable. Think "boere trappertjies" but with a modern twist :ROFLMAO:.
People have literally stopped me at the mall, come up to me at a restaurant to ask me what brand they are and where they can get them.

I've got a super wide foot with a super high instep, I buy whatever I buy because it happens to be what fits me best, not because of how it looks. It's very rare that I get any choice at all.

Was about to tag the man.
adamr adamr your input is required. xD

... yes Yeezys I thought were hobbo shoes initially and then fell in love. so too with the 700 Yeezys. The Pharrell inspired ones are sexy and all have a message behind them whilst the 4ds for the tech ...

recently bought these for everyday. Ultraboosts are rated the most comfortable

edit: most have risen in value in that collection of mine. I would sell some. because at a certain point they have become so expensive that wearing them then becomes a mental block tbh

Asics Onitsuka Tiger.... Love em to death...to date most probably had over 80 pairs of them. Currently have 31prs... 24prs still brand new stashed away... Obviously all different colors and styles.

The company I work for was the sole importer of it up until Asics decided to run operations totally on their own when they started sponsoring the boks i think it was a few years ago.

I love the ASICS Tigers. I’ve wanted a pair for ages but they don’t fit me at all.

They are one of the coolest sneakers out there that few people wear and I think that makes them super cool.

Despite the AF1's I would not be caught dead in any of the others :p I can respect buying any of these PURELY for investment , to later resell. Recently saw these which I think are quite nice, but I wouldn't wear them as they'd be purely for investment.

Where can I get these nowadays in CPT?

PS. Same Nikkel on HSR?
