This is what you need to get if you want to play around with overclocking and don’t want to have to spend £700 on a motherboard.

B550 Unify-X or B550 Master
16gigs 3200CL14 Samsung B die or 16gigs Micron Rev E.

Nvidia 3080
AMD 4750G

Will post links later

I'm going to post builds for people who want to do different things.

1) You want game and overclock on the side
AMD 5600X
4 times 8gig Crucial Ballistix 3200 or 4 times 8gig 3200CL14 Samsung B Die
Gigabyte B550 Master
Nvidia 3070 or 3080
Reason: Zen 3 loves having dual rank RAM setups and prefers low latency RAM over high speeds

2) You want to focus only on RAM overclocking:
AMD 4750G
B550 Unify-X
2 times 8gig Patriot Viper Steel 4400 or Crucial Ballistix 3200 or Crucial Ballistix MAX 5100
reason: AMD has the best memory controller of any modern CPU with the 4750G

3) Your name is @SILTECH786 and your passion includes Intel products and giving people diabetes
Wait for the new Comet Lake CPUs to come out and wait for reviews with PCI-e 4.0 enabled.
Otherwise, check this out

4) You have a big budget and a small penis and want to be satisfied, even if your wife isn't
Gigabyte X570 Xtreme
Crucial Ballistix MAX 5100
AMD 5900
Nvidia 3090

  • Do not set your RAM to over 3800 Mega transfers/s (1900mhz), AMD doesn't like outright speed. Lower latency is better, even if 3200CL14 doesn't match the FCLK.
  • If you overclock using BCLK settings on an X570 chipset, there is a chance that you might fry your NVMe SSD.
  • If you want to do BCLK overclocking, stick to SATA SSDs or B550 motherbards
  • Intel loves fast RAM but their products don't have a good enough memory controller to handle 5000mhz+ RAM.

Edit:
  • added links for the Gamers Nexus test of 2 versus 4 DIMMS in gaming
  • added links for overclocking using the 4750G and B550 Unify-X, B550 Master, Ballistix Max 5100, Patriot Viper Steel 4400
  • Use the Gamers Nexus video on the 5600X for Samsung B Die performance versus Micron rev E.
