Necro bump!
Now my little army of Gen8's have served me well I think I should update this thread a bit.
My Unraid Box is still going strong, I've upgraded the drives to 4X4TB and upped the memory to 16GB, added some dockers for Plex, qBittorrent and some others to have some auto downloaders running.
The Xpenology is in dire need of an update. I would like to take it up to DSM 7, however that dev channel seems to be stalled asd Jun hasnt made a new loader in quite some time. Currently its running DSM6.1 baremetal, and I will see if I can get it working on DSM6.2.
I scrapped the pfsense idea and opted to go for a straight MikroTik rather.
That said, that box became my lab ESXi setup (With 4x4TB drives and 16GB RAM)
Now upgrading ESXi 6.5 to 6.7 was anything but painless! And getting ESXi 7 to work on this hardware appears to be unworkable. I've tried every version of the hpvsa driver for the B120i controller I could find and it just doesn't work! I did order a couple of P222 controllers from eBay and will let you know how that goes.
I would highly recommend you guys install the latest SPP, BIOS and iLO. It did fix that annoying SD Card error as well as the very slow iLO. And you can view the remote console in browser now! No need for Java or .NET
