Before the release, everyone thought the Palit would be cheapest in SA because of going around middle-man distros and directly to Wootware.

It looks like the Asus TUF was the cheaper 3080 yesterday.

Does this mean WW upped their prices, or did distros lower theirs? Alternatively, is shipping just that much of a poes right now?

So... a 20Gb 3080S
Oh dear I really hate the "super" variants. Just make one version of the card. 3080ti with 20gb ram and x% performance difference I'm happy. Supers can truly just foff

S versions should be a mid life cycle refresh. Its business 101 ... If your product lifecycle is two years bring a refresh model a year down the line ... Reinvigorates the sales of said model

Everyone does this and makes perfect sense ... Cars consoles ... Some have varying tactics to refresh every year ... Most half way down the cycle

Let's be honest here, Woot cashed in. They're making at least R4k on a card. It's probably more since they're the distributor. As I mentioned the 2080 Super was selling for R13,999 and R14,799 just the other day and they were also $699 cards. Our rand has dropped to almost pre lockdown levels too.

I mean resellers are selling the Asus tuf for less than R17k, and they're going through our distributors. What does that tell you?

They actually didn't I have spoken with rectron and I have their pricing, the retailers are not far off. That been said I don't know what the distributors like rectron are marking it up by.

Woot doesn't go through Rectron with the Palits, Woot is the Rectron of Palits :)

its a pity that Wootware does not allow for collections. Will be in Somerset West on the 25th of September, but now i need to wait for the courier to ship the card, which i will only receive on 29/30/09/2020

[Reseller] - Gigabyte & ASUS 30 Series GPUs (Back Order) ETA Mid-End Oct | Resellers Forum

My point stands. Unless this person is going around local distros, it looks to me that the Palits aren't coming in that much cheaper with the middle-man distro (eg. Rectron) cut out of the equation.

[SPECULATION]
Which is probably why oom @Jack_Bauer_ZA keeps teasing this thing of Wootware and Palits. They've cashed in on the early adopters, now they can start undercutting other distros with the next batches coming in.
[/SPECULATION]

Either way unless you're still gaming on your iGPU it's probably healthier for your financial position to wait a good while before buying anything Ampere-shaped.

I'm waiting for the " Musk " 4th gen RTX 4090 64GB GDDR7X cards.
8K 240hz gaming is where it's at.

40Fps in Flight Sim 2020 at 4K is embarrassing
