The rumored pricing for the AIB custom 6800XT is min USD 800. with most estimated at USD 850.

Multiply that by the + 25 : 1. You have a card that is more expensive that the 3080.

And you have the joy of waiting...

Dec christmas shopping is coming. Some of us have already got our bonus.

Those cards will sell out.

Get yours now. imho
In your honest opinion, if the prices are as you say for AIB cards, around $850, would you recommend the 6800XT over the RTX3080.

Does that recommendation change If a person was gaming at:
1440p
3440x1440p
2160p

Just curious about what the current opinions are about the offerings after all speculations have been answered.

So zero stock on launch day, not even preorders.

And people thought the RTX3080 launch was bad lol.

The RTX 3080 launch still IS bad. It is bad worldwide.

This launch is for reference cards, which we apparently aren't getting, and rumors suggest that AIB cards should be readily available in larger QTY's than reference cards.

You can't compare 2 months of bad stock to not having reference cards stock on launch day. Not apple's to apple comparison.

AIB launch is next week.

gigabyte 6800 XT ZAR 19499. This is the ref card MSRP is 649. This is not a AIB custom card.

That implies a 30 to 1 exchange rate. Current rate = ZAR 15.4 to 1 USD

It is not worth paying 30:1 for the ref card. The ref card does not cool the memory effectively and the bios is bad for OC.

At this price point, you should wait for the custom cards. This is quite frankly ridiculous pricing. Just buy a nvidia card at this price point.

And you shouldn't take placeholder pricing as the actual price.

Yes Senshi. You samuried right to the point,

I am buying my nephew a gaming pc for christmas. And I bought into the AMD is coming to the fight at a reasonable price point. It is turning out to be very unlikely in RSA. I also bought into we will have ample stock . I see today AMD posted that they only have stock to meet the nvidia demand for 3080s.

Hence my opinion at the moment is

If you want/need a GPU for Christmas. Get the nvidia ones that are in stock. They will sell out fast. My nephew will get a 3070. If the wife chips in, he is getting a palit 3080.

I am over this wait for AMD GPU. The CPUs are awesome. I snagged a 5600x and a AMD board for the nephews build.

If you can wait. Buy nvidia in Jan. The 3080Ti is coming out so is the 3060Ti.

I know the price of the 3080 at the moment. I know who has stock right now.

With AMD, you have only rumors

By next week, people will have their christmas/black friday money.

The current stock/pre-allocation of nvidia will sell out.

So it is a smart idea to buy a nvidia card before the 25th.

the 3070 and the 3080 are great at most res. the 3080 is ideal for higher resolutions.

I call it based on the current prices and situation.

If it changes. I am open to changing mind.

If you meant I went from being a nvidia multiple owner to cheering for AMD. To buying what is in stock. Okay then.
My XPS laptop has a nvidia gpu...

I still think competition is good. Is there competition?

Lets revisit this at the end of the month.

Edited: for spelling and grammar.

Thanks for the input.
My 3080 is arriving tomorrow morning, but just wanted to hear your opinion either way.

BTW. Just pure speculation based on most releases in 2020. But hype really gets the best of us. We have a natural inclination to root for the underdog and that's understandable but I feel that the reception to the launch of Big Navi would have been much different if the hype was less, its a great product but the expectation was just enormous.

I guess it couldn't be avoided but its a great product and a luxury product at that. Not getting ourselves get caught up in hype is hard. I can foresee the same thing happening with Cyberpunk 2077.

Holy shit I hope I'm wrong though.

BTW as of 15 mins ago.

Three of my work colleagues (in the US) confirmed that they were able to buy 6800 gpus.

Person A went to buy a 6800 XT and left with a 6800. He paid USD 529 (he had a $20 voucher from the store)
Person B bought a 6800 at MSRP

Person C may have have 6800 XT.

Person A stated once he gets his 3080. He MAY let me have the 6800 at cost. My other collegue will be in the USA for Christmas. He will be back in ZA in the new year. ZAR 8150 is a bargain. Well who knows......

Yeah first time I'm buying a new GPU, always been a friend's old card after they upgraded or used from carb.

I was so keen I built a custom desk for my setup :ROFLMAO:

So my 6800 got delivered today, purchased yesterday. Learnt that you have to email the retailers in the UK as they show "sold out" to deter scalpers I think (wanted 6800xt but all sold out).

This thing is fucking awesome! great build quality, quiet and oh its stable at 2564 MHz on air (this is the max the amd software will let me set the clock to).

At 100% fan speed and draw of 223W its at 60 deg C.

Getting scores above 96% of people on the firestrike benchmarks and I have a damn 3400g processor!

The 3d mark hall of fame has the 6800XT on air in the top 20

The RTX 3090 used LN2 cooling.

That is USD 649 GPU vs a USD 1500 GPU

FUD !

Others are noting that the 3080 is faster than the 6800 XT. This is true, but the 6800 XT drivers are not optimized for the games. The same issue occurred with Nvidia this year.

RT and DLSS

The 6800 series does not support either RT or DLLS

Games that have RT

Note AMD promised both RT and support for Open source DLSS. But there is no idea when this will appear.

Right now if you need a christmas GPU. Buy what ever GPU is in stock. They are selling out quickly.
