Guys whats happening in the tech industry ... in the past few months we've had apple and ubers scandal regarding user data from their smartphones ,
we had apple slowing down or throttling smartphones on older systems
and now facebook has been caught selling the data of 50million of its users to a political consulting firm Cambridge Analytica.

AND this is just what we know about i have no doubt there is more and no doubt that google and all the other big players are also doing participating in shady deals.

Should we be wearing tin foil hats and moving to the mountains ?

It's been happening and what we are finding out about are past transgressions. A lot more are going to come, this is simply the starter.

mate...mate...MATE!!!

Please mate, please can we get the facts straight.

As far as I know, Facebook DID NOT sell the data of 50 Millions people NOR WAS the data a DATA BREACH AT ALL. Cambridge Analytica used Amazons Mech Turk to pay people to befriend them on Facebook and then they used that to gain access by way of friends to the rest of the users.

That is the story that I have heard and managed to pull out from the mess that is the dumpster fire of modern day politics and shit posting.

Yes Facebook are shitbags and we can all hate them. No, I don't think this is entirely their fault this time. The whole "#DeleteFacebook" movement is simply overhyped I think.

It's not paranoia if they are really after you.
And tech companies are after you.

So... I was playing PUBG... carrying on about how I could *REALLY* use a scope for my rifle... the next day my facebook adverts show adverts for wish... all for rifle scopes...

Yea pridge I have had that too. Ok so i cant say for sure the facebook thing was truth.... I wont debate it you may be right and i dont know enough.
My best is this. Buy something via paypal... i decided immediately afterwards paypal is dodgy let me delete account. Paypal gives me the nice ....are you sure...we will remove all data ..... talk.
A few month later my credit card was due to expire... pay pal emailed me to remind me about that.
Since ive posted that first thing google has had a few knocks too... again dont know how true...
Fined for creating a non competitive market on androids.
The eu hit them because they violated the new gdpr rules.
Also in partnership with the Chinese government to create a censored internet for china.

I cant believe how these big guys are dropping the ball

targeted advertising is the future..... they all doing it i believe in one way or another - data mining etc

If im not mistaken with paypal and likes you have to input the date of expiry on your card. So nothing new there just a friendly reminder.

I have noticed my google maps is tracking my movements even though my gps is off in settings but its probably some small setting i need to change in google maps. But at the end of the day all these free services are not free, you pay for them with your data so no point in getting paranoid as you were happy with signing up and inputing all your info there xD

This....I think its very predictive. Like when i start my car and the bluetooth picks up the phone. It say 10 mins to the gym etc. Sometimes im not going there. But it makes you paranoid ....:)

I think the point was he deleted his account yet they obviously still had at least his email address and credit card expiry date.

For Google there's a few settings controlling your location tracking. In Maps on your phone go to Settings, then Personal content. There's some location settings in there, one is the accuracy of the location, which will go to your phone settings in Android. The other is location history settings which is a general setting in your Google account.
With regards to suggestions etc that mostly comes from "Google Now" aka Google Assistant and not Maps itself. You should have a "Google" app on your phone, go to Settings • Accounts and privacy • my activity / Google activity controls. That's where most of the "tracking" settings come in.

I don't have anything really "off" but it's good to know what's there, at least the parts that have disclosed.
