So I’m a complete n00b to overclocking. I’ve got myself an Asus Z270i Strix mobo and a 6600k with a Phanteks PH-TC14PE cooler with only a 120mm case fan close by; no fans actually on the cooler. The case fan is sitting at a low rpm too.

After zero fine tuning I’ve got 4.7GHz at 1.3v and sitting at 80deg max in Aida64, but the cores are bouncing around 66deg to 75deg mostly.
Before I go any further, am I missing something or am I just lucky with my cpu?

is that all cores maxed to 4.7? make sure your frequency is not dropping due to throttling. Just keep and eye on for when it drops below 4.7. and see how often it happens. You basically want to see it up there for as long as it takes.

I’ve set “All core sync” in my bios so I assume all cores are at 4.7...right?
Aida64 doesn’t show any throttling but I’ll watch it in task manager as well.

Where is your memory sitting at? just to be clear i am no guru either :D just trying to be helpful :)

And I appreciate it :)

Memory is at stock XMP settings: 3000Mhz C16 1.35v. Haven’t touched the bclk.

Sounds like you won the silicon Valley lottery.

Just keep an eye on temps, but if they're fine and you're not throttling (dipping under 4.7) you're golden

Ok so she refuses to hold 4.9GHz at anything under 1.4v which is higher than I'd like to be. I'm happy with the results though :)

Hot damn that's a nice chip .....

But now please chuck a fan on that heatsink.

Going to be rebuilding my rig into a new case next week so I'll do it then. In the meantime I've dropped the OC to 4.7GHz at 1.25v and haven't seen anything over 60deg while gaming.

Yeah im at 4.5 at the 1.325v mark so 4.7 at sub 1.3v is a lottery winner.....

Ok, new question:

Is it possible that my CPU is hitting a maximum stable frequency waaaaay before temperature becomes an issue?

At the moment I'm running 4.7Ghz (100x47) at 1.312v for my every day usage. I can run it a 4.8GHz at that voltage, and it's stable in games, but very occasionally crashes under synthetic tests. 1.4v gets me 4.9GHz stable.

All through this I'm sitting at 55 degC if I turn my CPU fans to max (PH-TC14PE with 2x Corsair SP120). Should I just be piling on more voltage? At what point do I risk frying my cpu?
