Hello Carbies

I have a broken Surface Pro 3 and am wondering if the ssd in it will work on the Pico device ?

The Pico has a PCI Express Mini adapter. Anyone know if a mSats ssd will fit and work ?

The one issue I see is the side mount screw ?

From Wikipedia:
Dimensions of PCI Express Mini Cards are 30 × 50.95 mm (width × length) for a Full Mini Card. There is a 52-pin edge connector, consisting of two staggered rows on a 0.8 mm pitch.

M.2 modules are rectangular, with an edge connector on one side (75 positions with up to 67 pins, 0.5 mm pitch, pins on opposing sides of the PCB are offset from each other)

So, among other things, they are not physically compatible...

Online google search says PCI express will work with m.2 ... now gotta look for mSata hahahaha

The surface pro 3 has a mSata ssd so will take that out and stick it in the Pico :) it should work ... if not then a normal ssd I guess [emoji14]

PCI Express and SATA are protocols that are supported over the M.2 physical connection. mSata is a older, incompatible physical connection.

This ^

Although there’s still not a lot of difference between the mSATA and M.2 NVME technologies as they are both just different versions of SATA, you still can’t interchange either.

The Pico has a mSata port though not m.2 and the Surface Pro 3 has a mSata ssd so it will work :)

Upon more research I see they are all mSata so will be fine :)
