So I signed up for MTN-At-Home from Axxess and received a Huawei B525 which has dual band support. Everything worked great but Axxess charges R750 for a few hundred Gigs while Supersonic charges R999 for uncapped so I made the switch.

Supersonic sent me a Huawei B612 which is a single band router but the speed on it is still awesome and I am real happy with my internet... but the Oculus Quest requires a 5GHz band connection to stream to it so I need to use the B525. Okay, so far no problems... except Supersonic sends the sim and router preconfigured and thus I have no idea what my username or password is....

So I ask them: I need to use a different router. Can you please send me my username and password to the email address you have on record for me?
THEM: What router do you have?
ME: the Huiwei B612 but I want to use the B525. Can you send me the username and password please?

THEM: To setup your router, first press the reset button for 5 seconds then [instructions on how to create a username and password] then [instructions on how to log in to the router] then [instructions on how to setup wifi] then you can connect but [disclaimer that it might take a while to register on the network]

ME: That has nothing to do with my question. In fact, you keep speaking about the wrong router, even. I just want my username and password. Can you send it to me please?

Then I receive the email with my username and password....
So I enter it into the B525 and it just tells me "Profile invalid"

ME: The router you sent me only supports the 2.4GHz band. I need the 5GHz band so I need to use the other router I used to use with your network. You sent me the username and password but it doesn't work. Can you please send me login details that Do work?

THEM: What is the problem with the router?
ME: It is only single band. I need a dual band router. I already have one but I need login details for it since the login details you sent me doesn't work. Can you send me my login details, please?
THEM: What is the router model?

Clearly I will get further by asking my 3 year old cousin for technical support in this regard. So I tried again.... Nope, invalid profile. Okay, let's try something else... So I created a second profile on the router Supersonic sent me and, nope, the details they sent me also doesn't work on the router they provided me ... until I deleted the username field and tried to connect with the username blank. That worked just fine.

So I tried that on the other router and nope, can't connect. Invalid profile.

I noticed that when I was with Axxess the APN was myMTN so I tried using that... no luck.
So I tried using my username but leaving out my password (using both APNs), nope. Invalid profile.

Then I tried leaving the APN blank and that actually did NOT give me an invalid profile. the router was actually able to send data upstream, just not downstream. So I tried all different combinations of leaving one field or the other blank and using the different APNs and in all cases I got an invalid profile except when I left the APN empty... but then I couldn't download anything so the valid profile was useless.

I tried the same with the router they sent me and, as before, if I leave my username out then I can connect just fine. If I add my username I get an invalid profile. If I leave any other field out I get an invalid profile. I tried using my username with the parts before and after the @ and also the whole thing (on the B525) but all I ever got was an invalid profile or a valid profile with 0 kbps speed.

I am still waiting for them to respond (it seems my account has a different username and password for each router their network supports... I ask "What is my login details?" and they reply with 'What model router do you have?' so it makes sense that my login details differ for every router they support, right? 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️)

My employer has charged me with moving the project from Unity 2019 to 2020 but the VR code is entirely different. He is using the quest wirelessly during development but me, all I can say is "Sorry, I can't do my job because my router doesn't support the 5GHz band and my ISP doesn't know how to email a username and password. I guess I'll take the week or two off while I wait for them to figure out how to email a username and password for my specific model of router". My employer is very understanding but I think that is pushing it a little bit.

So, since Supersonic doesn't know how to make their own sims work with one of the few models of routers they support and I have run out of ideas of things to try I am hoping one of you fine folks can show me how I am a total n00b with routers and all I have to do is [insert 5 second fix here]. If you can show me I am a complete idiot and this issue can be solved in seconds I would be eternally grateful to you!

So, does anyone have any ideas on why it is so impossible for me to connect to Supersonic with a Supersonic sim using a router they support configured with the username and password and APN they provide?

I thank you in advance

I finally managed to figure it out on my own, today. I asked for help, yet again, and I was told: type in 192.168.8.1 and enter admin and admin. If you still can't log in to your router, let us know so we can schedule a call with a maintenance member.

God! How infuriating those people are! So I said "Yes, please let someone call me because clearly, after 2 days you still don't know what the problem is. just SCROLL UPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

THEM: Okay, we will contact you. Please provide us with your account number.
ME: See? If you had just scrolled up you will have seen my number is 123456 but since you clearly didn't scroll up let me paste it for you again: it is still 123456 like it was 2 days ago when I told you it was 123456

SO BLOODY FRUSTRATED!!!!!!!!!

So I reset the router and tried it all from scratch. Same result. Nothing works. Invalid profile all the time. So I decided to do something drastic and use the only combination of APN, username and password I haven't tried yet: I deleted both username AND password and just connected without a username or password... and that worked beautifully!

Who the hell knew? 🤷‍♂️
