So I got scammed on my first trade here. I thought of something that could help prevent this sort of thing.

If you have zero rep (and zero posts), DMing offers instead of discussing them in the clear is grounds for an immediate ban.

Ideally this would be automated, but I'm not sure what Carbonite's technical capabilities are like.

Thoughts?

cant' be automated, and we can't help people that don't use their heads. We've provided a safe dealing guide for people to try follow and you've done exactly what we've said not to do. Sorry bud

To add to what @ian_stagib said, that won't prevent scammers either. He can start and discuss the deal in the open, but he can still run away with your money. Not really solving anything.

I don't buy it. Loads of software is designed to help people who don't use their heads.

The safe dealing guide is under computer components > CPUs, which doesn't exactly scream "discoverable".

Surely it would help, though? These guys use DMs specifically so they can operate in the shadows, where e.g. more experienced forum members can't jump in and say, "Hang on, this looks fishy." Shine a brighter light, you reduce the number of viable targets.

I have an idea. Ban the scammers and the new members with 0 rating that keeps on getting scammed with NUMEROUS red flags.

Suggestion: Don't give unknown people over the internet money. Your mom never taught you not to trust strangers?

Well... If they do it and it is not over a DM then it is fine... right?

Or you could bring the dm up in the thread and ask if anyone will vouch for said guy?

Face to face with noobs, it's one of, if not the safest way, sorry you had such a cap 1st experience.

He throws it back and makes it seem like carbs fault though. Sorry not sorry

Tbh there is a feature on the forum where you can invite someone to a convo. So if you wanted someone else's opinion on whether to do the deal or not then you could've added someone there. Again this does not stop the scammer from scamming.

Giving money to an absolute stranger .......... classic, let's put in fail safes that force users to use their brains... genius.

Yeah, you can't blame anyone else for getting scammed, you're the only one that can avoid it, the amount of deals I didn't bother with here and especially on scumtree is a lot and I gather 99% of them were scams.

It's just common sense which someone attempted to verbally explain. I've looked at it and I consider the thread completely superfluous anyways.
Nevermind it not being "discoverable", it shouldn't even need to exist.
