Star Citizen - spiritual successor to freelancer and wing commander

Went out for some exploring for the last two days with MR Wobbles and Toy machine.

First time in game personally and have to say that it is mind blowing what they have managed to do. Performance is crap but if you can get past that and just admire the scale and complexity of what was created in this game then that alone makes it worth getting.

If you are looking to do some real "playing" then I suggest you have a good pc as frame drops make it difficult to participate in firefights etc.

For reference I have a:
i5 6500 CPU
16gb Ram
1080 GPU

I have trouble at one of the stations so far with regards to frame rates but otherwise can enjoy most my time messing around in the verse. Go into this expecting an unfinished project and admire what these people have created. Something that stood out for me was that this game is being made for future gen hardware as it's a massive project - helps put everything in perspective.

That is not bad spec, are you running 4k or lower?

There are some areas that are just not optimised at all where you can expect fps around 20. I was with him with the following specs:
2700X @ 4.1Ghz
32GB 3200Mhz C14
1080Ti at 1980Mhz
WD Black SN750 NvME
2560x1440
and I was getting about 24fps where he was at 18. Most places I get around 50-70.

Looks like my cud list just got longer xD

1tb ssd
OP gpu
More ram wouldnt hurt xD

It's wonderful to see new people discovering what an insanely in depth and massive project this game is.
So many trolls talk about how it's a scam and bla bla bla but once you've played it and experienced what this game has to offer, the time taken and money spent makes complete sense.

Indeed, I obviously came across that almost every time the name of the game is mentioned anywhere, which is bullshit. give them time to do the optimization (I get and understand years of 2-30 fps can get old)
Point is to focus on what is there and being built. It is more important to build the foundation and then optimize the performance on solid ground instead of having performance broken again and again because of new system being brought into the game.

Watching a crewman jump off a spaceport and hover in mid space to the ship and come in through an airlock, while sitting in a turret viewing the ship from 3rd person, being able to see yourself in perspective and track all the animations accurately, yeah it has something going for it.

Best startership? I like the titan but $65 is too much for that starter pack. The aurora has the bed which I like but the mustang has better trade value if you want to trade it for a titan. Any advise around this?

1080p son lol.

My problem is not my GPU (What I feared) Just looking at my task manager tells me that my CPU is running 90% while running the game, I'd imagine a newer i7 or AMD equiv would net me a fair amount more frames. I just don't have a butt load of cash to upgrade my CPU and friends unfortunately - upping to a 1080ti would've been relatively cheap compared.

First time getting up from my bed the game crashed.
2nd attempt took ages for it to load to a space port.
I've tried very high to low settings, 1440p to 1080p and FPS is around 35.
In the hangar I went to I got around FPS with everything maxed...

Is there a trick to get your FPS up?

NO but apparently lower setting are more taxing so it is better to leave it on the higher settings xD

And here I am ready with my 3570k hahaha. I also dont have cash for that upgrade now. That fps on 1080p hurts. But it is only in alpha. Lets see.

I'm happy to troubleshoot with you. Some of the landing zones are resource hogs, it may be better in space depending on your system.

The Vulkan API is in active development :)

The Titan is the best starter ship right now but it's also not too difficult to earn in-game.

I like the Mustang quite a lot, it flies nicely and can put out a decent amount of firepower when fully kitted out. You will get a loaner Freelancer (until some more work is done to allow moving physics grids in ships) anyway which makes purchasing the Titan all the easier.

Still my favorite, don't think I'll ever get rid of this.

My Banu Defender Anniversary 2018 edition.

So what happens if you're in the mustang and log out?
Am I thinking too much i to the bed in ship idea?

Your thinking is correct, but I'm not sure how long it will take to get to a stage where that works well.

I don't believe they really have persistence working too well and the game isn't stable enough to rely on that either. You should get far more out of the mustang now with the firepower and using it to bounty hunt or something like that.

Play for a couple days, make some money and you can buy something else to supplement it.

I will suck at flying most likely so not reslly sure how Im going to make money, seems like carco is risky with the game crashes. If you mine does the resources stay on the ship if you get disconnected?

Will keep playing elite dangerous till I decide to buy into this.

I did some hand mining last night but did not store anything in a ship. What I mined I kept on my person and ended up making around 12k monies after one trip inside a cave and the personal inventory is generally protected from crashes. I even quit and rejoined the server to get out of the cave and was fine. Cannot speak to ship inventory though.

And I dissapeared for long enough to be disconnected from the server LUL xD

If you log out outside of a bed you will respawn at the last place you landed which has a habitation pod. If you left your ship somewhere else you will need to claim it from insurance.
It's not such a big deal at the moment. All you need to do is fly to the nearest station (and there are plenty around) and your ship will be stored if it's landed on a pad.
Running cargo is risky because if the server crashes you will have to claim the ship from insurance and you will lose the contents of the ship. The servers are not very stable in this patch and I haven't run any cargo for a while.
You can make good money being a delivery pilot (courier missions) which doesn't require much fancy flying. I made 2 million aUEC over a couple of weeks of casual playing and bought myself a Prospector.

The Aurora is better for this as it has a cabin where the Mustang does not.

As Spectaitor said, your personal inventory (including ore mined by hand) should be retained between logouts. The databases are a little wonky at the moment as they are receiving a lot of back-end work to prepare for full persistence and then server meshing.

Ship inventory is retained between logouts as long as you are not forced to claim your ship for any reason. If you load a cargo hold and park your ship at a station, your cargo and ship will be there next time you retrieve it.

Awesome, thanks for the insight and advice. I might even look for some familiar names online haha
Give Mr Wobbles a pm and I'm sure he'll invite you to his discord and then whenever you want to party up just have a look on there for other players.

So I had to upgrade my GPU for working in Unreal Engine, I was using 4690 internal graphics but now I have a Vega 64 (yay). Upshoot of this I can now play games again 😂

I actually bought the Aurora LN in the first year and stopped playing when they introduced the racing though. Can anyone give me a brief rundown of what's cool to do lately? Busy downloading now 5GB left so should be on a bit later.

Mining is almost complete as a gameplay loop, you can get a Macflex Rucksack Core at most armour shops and the Greycat Multi-Tool with Orebit mining attachment is available at all major landing zones. You can find caves by looking at investigation missions in the contracts manager.

With an LN you should be set for most of the lower tier bounty hunter missions, as long as you're a skilled pilot.

You can fit around three courier mission boxes in the back of the LN, usually making between 18000 and 30,000 aUEC a trip.

The FPS missions are pretty good, there is the 890J mission where you need to board and kill some pirates. If you complete the optional objective you can make 17,000 in a couple of minutes. There's also the Price of Freedom mission which is very much illegal that pays 38,000 if you complete the optional objective. Be prepared for a bit of jail time if you get caught.

Most of the special mission-giver missions are worth playing through too.
