I need some valid work experience in a field, I am still young so I can go into whichever I land up getting work in. I would like an apprenticeship as I have no experience currently and I am a measure twice cut once type of person, that being said I would rather learn first hand what to do prior to doing it.

Without getting into the politics behind this particular movement--have you tried contacting Solidarity?

Sol-Tech – The occupational training college of your choice - Solidariteit Wêreld

I know it is not an apprenticeship per se but they may offer scholarships/placements. I have heard that the training is of a very high standard.

Also not sure if the following program is still running but was really good, I would even say world class about 4 years ago:

National Technologies Implementation Platform
TDM Powered

Was to train tool and die makers / fitters with certification from international bodies and back then, they did pay a stipend and helped their students alot. Like I said though, this was a few years ago and unfortunately it may have lost momentum/lost funding since.

If you want to go into engineering, you can also study most disciplines through Unisa. It is a long road to qualification but well worth it at the end.

All of the best to you!

Thanks man, I'll be sure to check those out.

Did any apprenticeship programs survive the change in regime?
