Hi guys

I recently sold a ps4 console off-site and im having some issues with the buyer.

I made sure that it was working 100% before even posting the PS4 on another site. I disclosed an issue it had with the fan - just a bit noisy, but there were no other issues, whatsoever.
After I personally made sure that the PS4 was working, I restored it to its factory settings (to protect all my information, etc & to give the guy a "fresh console".
The buyer (kinda dodgy looking) purchased the PS4 from me for cash - and it was a good deal for both parties.

When he came around to my residence - I showed him that it was working and everything was in order - I even gave him and extra controller that wasn't advertised with it (because the charging connection was intermittent and I didnt want to include it in the original ad for that reason).

3/4 days later, he contacts me (at 23h30) and says that the CD Drive isn't working at all. He also accuses me of scamming him, because the playstation was factory reset and he said he couldn't make sure that the CD drive was working properly.
I have a bad feeling that he is trying to scam me once the deal has gone through.
It all seems very odd to me that he's come back with an issue after I personally checked it multiple times before resetting it.

-Does anyone know if the serial number on the PS4 matches the one on the parts inside or anything like that?
-Is anyone aware of any scams that relate to this sort of thing? (Maybe like swapping out parts and then reporting that it doesn't work?) - That's kinda where I think this is going.
-If he brings it back to me and the stickers that cover the PS4 screws to open it are gone what are my options dealing with him?
-Kind of worried because he knows where I stay as well and like I mentioned previously, he doesn't seem like a savory person.

-Any general advice dealing with this person would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advanced

**apologies admin if this is posted in the incorrect place.

Could there also be an issue when resetting the PS4 back to factory settings that might affect the CD drive?
I've tried having a look online, but can't find anything that indicates that.

I'm also worried that he has broken it and now expects a refund.

Thanks in advanced

Well sheeet.

1. You should always do deals in public, I don't know about you but I'm not very keen on inviting a stranger I met online, coming to my home.

2. I'm not sure if this is still the case with the PS4, but the PS3 BD drive was married to the console, so essentially you couldn't swap it out with another unit unless you did some soft mods / Jailbreak - This is not possible yet on PS4.

3. Your best bet is to see if the warranty sticker is broken or tampered with. This will give you a rough idea if he opened the console. ( Assuming you didn't already do it before )

4. Factory resetting wouldn't cause a issue with the Drive not working. Just for more insight, is it not reading disks or not allowing him to put the disk into the console ?

Hi thanks for the reply.

He sent me a video this morning, and kinda gave himself away.

In the video, you see the disc says that it's unrecognised, but he has the game on the dashboard of the PS4 already.
This means at on point before it was "unrecognized" he was able to load it on the system.
I know this because after doing a factory reset, there would have been no game data on the console at all.
I don't know if he's just stupid, or just taking a chance.

Let's see what happens

Soo.... depending on what you posted in the advert on said other forum/site you may have some wiggle room.

1. Id suggest you ask him to bring it back and then offer a repair - most scammers want cash back instanlly.
2. Have the device checked out by a repair centre. Get a quote and settle and get ride of the device, new buyer can deal with repair centre if other issues come up.
3. Becarefull when the person comes past do the deal at a public place so if there is any fallout you have video and people that can witness if needs be.

Sounds like a disc issue. Did you sell him these games?

Thanks for the info.

I gave him the games with the console. If it's an issue with the actual game, I can always replace it with a newer version that I have - but i doubt it.

I've read online that it might be an issue where the ps4 needs to be run in safe mode and the database needs to be repaired or even a firmware update. It's weird, considering that it was just factory reset.
I can see from the video that the console isn't connected to the internet, which might be why he can't update the firmware.

If you see my reply to @Spectre , I posted the video he sent me and you can clearly see he has installed the games on the console, so it was working at one point in time when it was with him.

I had a looked at the video.

Did he perhaps test another disk to confirm that the issue is the drive and not the disk ?

It doesn't have to be a game, it can be a CD or DVD. If those read then you know for sure that the disk drive is fine.

Be careful, he could of given you some fake notes now wants refund with real notes.

Could come with a friend or 3 and try something. If you take it back, then definitely in a public place.

Tell him you are busy moving or something and you will send it in for a repair and be in touch in him or else offer a refund but try give him dame notes if possible.

Thanks for the help guys.
He says that all of the games aren't working on the console.
I'm going to have the notes checked at the bank today, just to be sure.

I think he might have dropped it or something, but can't be sure.
He says that it's making a weird noise when he puts in a disk. (never did this before).

Appreciate the help, guys!

Just note (lol) that, if they are fakes and the bank confirms this, you won't be able to refund him with them, as they will be confiscated. And you'll be out of that money forever.

Thats a good point, might be worth it to rather try deposit them at a ATM ?
AFAIK, It would simply reject them.

What the guy could have done too is install the game with the legit disc, then make a copy which would be unrecognizable on the ps4 resulting in his 'error'... so most likely spent money he didn't have, got shit from his SO... and then spent 3-4 days making a copy trying to figure out how to get his money back...

Almost sounds like there's an awful lot of fake notes floating around that are really hard to identify as fake :D
Seen my fair share of fake notes and not once have I seen one that is remotely hard to identify as fake with more than a cursory glance.

Hey man i did have a ps4 slim that seemed to do the same it ended up being a firmware issue that fixed mine.

@K1ngFallen
Thanks for the reply.

I ended up giving the guy his money back, and sorted out the issue with the console.
It was the firmware/updates that needed to be installed.

I think when I reset it to factory settings, all that stuff needed to be updated, even though he said he did, when I had the PS4 in my possession, I saw that it wasn't.

Some people are just too lazy they want the stuff done for them.

Sweet anytime.
In the buyers defense, he'd expect to buy something in a fully working condition, I know I would have.
He might be also be after a console because he's not too tech savvy etc.

@moedeez

It was working when he received it.
That's what I don't understand - The issue only started happening 3/4 days after he had originally used it.

He was dishonest, lied about when it started happening and the fact that he said he never played games on it at all, despite the games being loaded on the console by him - this is what set off redflags.
