SOC falling from 45% to 1% within seconds.

@SoF_ZA Do yourself a favour and see if you can get the app/utility to connect to the battery's bms. There you can view the cell voltages and sees what's going on.

99% chance it's caused by a unbalanced cell/cells
Very good chance after they have been balanced properly the problem will be fixed.

If the bms was doing its job properly and it's cell high/low voltage cutoffs was set conservatively the cells/battery won't be damaged.

@eY_b0ss - Any updates on this?

Installer did the update today on our inverter only - meaning the batteries is probably still the same.

It came with some headaches - solar panels didn't want to charge, batteries didn't want to be used. So for +-3hours only ran on eskom while he figured it out remotly.

Got it to work later on, but our display on our inverter is now showing our max usage as "3w", and solar charge as "5w". So clearly something isn't lekker. The phone app however shows correct values.

He told us to use the batteries tonight till 40% and see if the problem persists.

Another update: Batteries now falls from 45% to 1% but actually shows it charging from 1% onwards. When it reaches 55% it jumps to 100% lol. So a little uno-reverse going on.

Installer is fetching the batteries sometime this week to take it to the manufacturer for testing or so says his WhatsApp message.

I have the same batteries (Raystech rebranded 5100s - same battery, 2 in parallel) and have the exact same issue as detailed here. SoC dropping from 49% to 1% during discharge and 55% to 100% during charge.

Already had 1 replaced under warranty about a year ago for the same issue. The one that wasn't replaced had recently started doing the same thing, and it is currently with the manufacter for "diagnosis".

The one that was a replacement from 1 year ago has now started doing the SoC jumping too. I have a sunsynk inverter, so no correlation besides the battery type.

@eY_b0ss - Considering the above and what was found previously about these batteries, is there any chance your installer could supply you with a different set of batteries (brand / comparable size)?

If they replace your batteries(like for like), maybe at least get them to give you a new warranty/extend the current one (in writing) so you are not left out in the cold when they act up again.

This is quite unacceptable.

@SoF_ZA Agree with you on the point about trying to switch to a better brand. I don't believe getting new CFE / Raystech batteries will help in the long term.

Are you guys using the battery BMS or the inverter to manage SOC? Maybe it's just a faulty BMS on these batteries that could be bypassed?

I have used both BMS (Lithium mode) and no BMS (AGM V) and it makes no difference. The usable capacity of each battery is only 2.85kwh (of the theoretical 4.8kwh)

I have also recorded the readings every 10 seconds from the battery monitoring app to verify cell voltages, and the internal SoC reading. I don't see major drops in any specific cells. The battery internal SoC drops from 49 to 0, and triggers a low voltage protection alarm

Ultimately though, we paid for batteries that should have working BMS. So for me, bypassing it long term is not a solution

100%, just trying to pinpoint if it's the cells or the BMS. From what you describe it sounds like you've tested both battery BMS and Sunsynk (AGM V). It does sound like a cell issue. What was your average DOD (before the issues arose) obviously now it's 0% - which means the problem will probably only get worse. Sounds really frustrating... Hope the vendor/suppliers get it resolved.

I've had a very similar experience between October 2023 and February 2024, also with the Raystech 5100S batteries. My system was installed in February 2023, 8kw Deye inverter with 3 of these batteries. After only 8 months I started seeing this same drop in SoC as explained above, as well as the jump in SoC when charging.

At first I was blamed for overdischarging them, but thankfully I could show them the logs of SoC drop vs load. There is definitely an issue with both the CFE and Raystech 5100S models.

It took months to resolve. They also updated the firmware remotely, for both inverter and batteries. They then replaced a single battery, but the problem persisted. I also ran it in BMS and voltage mode - same issue. It was infuriating. We live in an area with countless power failures, nevermind loadshedding. That was the whole reason why I invested in the system. Out of desparation, I started contacting the installer and manufacturer daily.

Eventually, in Feb last year, Raystech agreed to replace all 3 batteries with the updated 5120 model. All has been well since then - touch wood!

As a bonus, the replacement batteries are rated at 1.5C, so charging is way faster than before.

Best of luck, it's a very tedious process.

Appreciate the input! Thanks. Apologies if I came off defensive. :)

Average DOD previously ranged between 60% and 40% (Final SOC reading of the day) depending on weather etc.

Hey @SoF_ZA , don't worry I got the answer to the above question.

Our installer came back to me after I asked him about the 3day update - that he was talking about the Inverter. And that that update takes 3 days.

Within 1minute of reading his message, I found a YouTube link from the inverter brand themselves stating it takes 9minutes.

So this guy is lying through his teeth and is playing for time or something. I'm not sure what is his goal.

I'll keep this thread open just to update the progress and let it be a warning or solution to someone else who might end up with my situation.
When they installed the inverter they made luxpower account for your app, they use a code( that links your wifi dongle to their account aswell)

So if you don't come right with them and they don't sort out your issues, you want to move away.

Just email luxpower to move the account away and explain to them why.

Both of my 5100s batteries are now in at Raystech for repairs or replacement. Luckily my installer gave me a loaner so I still have some backup power.

Yer hearing the stories here I would probably have forced them to do partial refund and move over to another brand and pay the school fees. I know it's kak but fook me I don't like to struggle

Ha, never mind that. They now claim they won't be able to replace with the newer model anymore and have 2 old stock 5100s batteries for me. Either Raystech or the installer are trying to weasel out of it or keep the new batteries for themselves. so, the fight continues.

Update, installer ghosted us. After 2 weeks of only blue ticking us on Whatsapp, we finally got in contact with the company. They told us he left the company, "apparently" destroyed most of his data on his laptop, so they had no clue what clients was being serviced by him. Our batteries are also "apparently" otw, and will be installed this week.

What an absolute shitshow. Feb to May without a working system.

Wow. That's pretty wild man.

Good luck with the rest of the process. Hopefully all sorted soon.

Still waiting to hear anything about mine since I told my installer I don't want his old used 5100s that he offered

So, finally got news about my situation on Friday. Raystech back tracked on the replacement with newer models for reasons that sound like financial issues.

Got two "new" 5100s batteries, installer hooked them up on Friday as well. Did a full discharge to 5% and charge back up to 100% yesterday and so far things look okay. (9.6kWh out, 10.1kWh in)

Still quite paranoid so will likely be checking stats multiple times a day.

Nice. Atleast you sorted now.

@eY_b0ss , batteries installed?

Yes installer came yesterday, installed it, unfortunately same models. When asked why the same if they're a known issue, the guy just told me a "CFE is a really good brand!". To which i responded, "guess I'll see you again next year." But our system is back online so should be grateful.
